The problem is most of those guys are anti-gay, anti-abortion etc. Republicans come with too much baggage for a fiscal conservative/constitutionalist that isn't in line with the social conservatives to get elected. Mitt was in a way the last great hope, but just to get through the primaries he had to pander to tea partiers/bible thumpers.
