Tequilla's Ohio State Post Mortem Thoughts

Generally speaking, I'm a fan of taking the points when they are there. I don't generally like Fake FG situations (particularly if a QB isn't your holder) because you're putting players in position to fail more often than not. I do think that when a fake works that poorly it takes momentum away from you as a team and gives some good momentum to the opposition.
Given the time/score of the game, I thought it was an odd time for the call. At that point you've effectively outplayed your opponent for the first 26+ minutes. No need to change anything.
Did the fake cause Ohio State to score? Not directly.
Did the fake give momentum to Ohio State? Absolutely.
I don't think it's uncorrelated that Ohio State's 2 best drives of the game came going into halftime and coming out of halftime feeding off that momentum.
I don't think its a huge stretch to say that it gave Ohio State some confidence about the outcome … there is a saying that some subscribe to that teams that go to fakes and trick plays often do so because they don't think they can beat you straight up.
UW still likely loses that game fake or no fake.
My point is that it was an unnecessary risk at that point of time compounded by one of the worst attempts that I've ever seen. It absolutely served as a shot to the nuts.

We need a thousand words to be told a big play gave a team momentum.

I just can't stand his drive by thinks he's god's gift to sportsball analysis diarrhea of the keyboard. Dude loves to hear himself talk. "I've said this same thing 5 different ways. Hmm, let's make that 8."
-
I care so much to hear myself talk that I rarely post anymore … only tend to do these types of things for big games or before/after the season
There's a lot to like with what happened Saturday … far more than to be concerned about
It wasn't perfect
There were things to learn from for both players and coaches
Fans of this program need to get rid of the sky is falling mindset … particularly when losing to the #1 team in a competitive fashion

To take other side of this, Ohio State was a poorly called 4th down slow developing stretch play and fumbled punt from being up 7-0 and having the ball at UW 25 10 minutes into game. TD there and route more than likely is on.
We aren't in same universe of having the dudes across the OL/DL to compete at the highest level of B12 let alone SEC and 12 team playoffs.
Fisch not calling a timeout b4 fake goal after seeing Ohio State not have 1, not 2 but three players in safe mode (including 2 on the side of field the fake was going to) is inexcusable to me and on same plane as telling your senior QB were running the option to short side versus WSU no matter what and not giving him the option to check out of it even when a Rogers in two seconds can count and realize they have one more defender that we can block on play.
That's a mistake a head coach makes in year 1 or two, not in year 4.

Stop saying we don't have the players. There's talent throughout this lineup and saying that or echoing it more likely is not just wrong it detracts from the actual problems. That being Jedds rezone offense and Demonds holding on to the ball IMO. If those 2 things are different the game was absolutely winnable. Not saying they do win every time don't twist.
Stop echoing braindead doog tweets or wherever you all get this from that lil ol Washington doesn't have the players. It's an excuse for Jedd. One more year bro c'mon bro let me get my guys in next year bro. You mean after Willis, Moore, Coleman, Taco, Prysock and Boston are gone??

Define what you mean by saying that "we have the players"
We do have players … there's a really good chance that we can finish as a Top 15-20 team this year whether via the polls, metrics, or all the above. If all goes right we might finish a bit higher.
But I don't think it's really that crazy to say that we don't have the same kind of talent that the #1 team in the nation, defending national champion, and the definition of what a blue blood has.
That's not to say that we shouldn't expect to be able to compete with them … and we did.
That's not to say that we didn't have at least a puncher's chance of winning the game … and we did.
We're closer to competing at that level today than we were last season.
We'll get another chance to show how much we've improved throughout the year when we play Oregon at the end of the season.
We'll very likely be closer to competing at that level next season than we were this season.
It's fine for us all to be frustrated by things here and there … notably the fake FG call that isn't explainable. It's frustrating to me to see Fisch not take accountability for it.
But this idea that things need to be blown up because we lost to #1 that so many UW fans have right now … it's really over the top.

We have the players because Fisch is a great recruiter and we have the portal so rebuilds can happen as fast as one year - 2 years max
Because he's a great recruiter and DeBoer didn't recruit good enough to keep the teen boy stalkers happy
