Kind of like how climate change is settled science. Excuse me while I warm up my wood chipper (75K?).

Criticize Dinesh D'souza and you must be some huge Michael Moore fan (most liberals aren't).

Yeah, who can forget the way liberals attacked Moore after his 9/11 film.

Yes because the grown-ups on the right have been so quick to distance themselves from Dinesh D'souza and the birthers.

I never said Dinesh D'souza was a birther. I don't know if he is or not.

Sure, most of you disagree with me and you think I'm a twat, but at least you use facts and reason and shit

Decreasing taxes is always a good thing. The capital gains tax needs to be reduced to a flat 5% and the category of short term capital gains should be completely eliminated. 5% for long term and short term investments. The so called 'death' tax should be completely eradicated. The government has no right to take a piece of someone's estate when they die. They've already tax raped that person's estate over the course of their lifetime. And the gift tax? Fuck that too. These are GIFTS, not gifts to the government. But I'm sure Damone will think this is an uniformed opinion (unless of course he agrees with it).

O rly? Please to be explaining this assertion.

So in the best of all possible worlds, we pay no taxes.

    What happens next?
  • oregonblitzkriegoregonblitzkrieg Member Posts: 15,288
We should pay just enough taxes to keep the government running and nothing more. Government at every level has become a corpulent octopus that tries to financially strangle us through taxation.

Property taxes in some states are just obscene. If you're a property owner and don't have kids, you shouldn't have to pay that portion of the taxes that goes for the schooling of other people's children. Also we shouldn't have property taxes that are so high that we're effectively forced to pay 'rent' on property we're supposed to 'own." I'm tired of having to fund the grotesque salaries of overpaid city/county officials that don't really do squat to improve anything. Fuck that shit. I'm sick of it. Most of their salaries could be axed 50 percent or more and it would be closer to fair for the job they do.

Less taxes equals more saving, more spending, a better economy and happier people.

Not trying to be a dick, but that's pretty much what we pay now. Taxes in the US are toward the bottom of the developed rich nations. I think that you have a point in that we have a government which is really poorly run and wasteful - but that is a function of our un-reformed 1789 constitution rather than taxes per se.

There are lots of things which benefit all of us which are not readily apparent. Go to a country without universal public education and see all the kids in the streets (and trying to steal your wallet), and you might agree to pay some taxes to put them somewhere under adult supervision where they can become a benefit rather than a detriment to society.

Most civil servants aren't getting rich, and many of us even try to do a good job and save the government some money. After all, we pay taxes as well.

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said "Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society." I think that is more true now than ever before.

Disagree. When we're paying taxes to support foreign enemies like the Palestinian ragheads (the funds of which end up getting diverted to help Hamas), when we give aid to hostile countries like Egypt, when we spend millions of dollars on failed shit like Obamacare, not to mention various other useless programs, we are not in a situation where we're paying only enough to keep the government running. On the contrary. We're gorging the octopus.

    This is rich...

Ok. Let's just say we agree and as a society we should pay for universal education. So I would say give every school kid a voucher and they can use it to attend school. Then it's "whoa whoa what..what we meant is they need to be able to attend government school not any school of their choice. After all we need standards" Well, ok so it's not about education, it's about control. Right?

And what else do we fund that we constantly get hit up for besides education? What else are taxes raised for so that people blindly go along with? Well, we need roads. Because without the government, who would build the roads?!! And we need police and fireman. Would you want a bill every time you needed a fireman? No! So we will pay the taxes.

Ok. Teaches, firemen, roads, police. Let's assume as a community we decide we will all pay taxes for these things. The truth is those things are about 10% OF MY FUCKING TOTAL TAX BILL. Throw in some national defense and I'm still at 20% of what I pay now. Jesus. Always the roads, teachers firmen, etc are used to justify taxes. These are mostly funded by local property taxes and approved by the local voters. And the amount to a small amount of taxpayers total tax bill. So sure, let's only pay taxes "to keep the government running".. Yeah, let's do that.
  • MikeDamoneMikeDamone Member Posts: 37,781
Please specify what in the 1789 constitution has resulted in a poorly run and wasteful government ? National defense? Be specific.

    I'm going 4.81% ...

I find adding 81% tends to add legitimacy.

Jesus, capital gains tax is already the lowest rate among wealthy countries. That's not good enough? Or maybe I was whooshed..
