Not saying he would’ve won or even approached winning. Would the current platform/image/electability be better or worse right now if he had won the Republican primary in 2012?GrundleStiltzkin said:
For style impeding substance, look no farther than the Libertarian Party or libertarian politicians. Ron Paul looks better and better on substance, but that twitchy little fellah had no shot nationally. Completely blanking on the 2016 LP candidate, but that dude had TBI.Bob_C said:
Thought exercise. Where would the Republican Party be today had we run Ron Paul against Obama?GrundleStiltzkin said:

TeamMAGA has now gone through four election cycles, and it's not been great for the last three. This might surprise @RaceBannon but I abhor style over substance. And yet, perhaps because of that, I can understand that mindset a little. "No mean tweets" is a funny meme because it gets at something true and dumb. But at some point, results matter. This isn't working anymore. Objectively, it appears completely reasonable to call Trumpism as an electoral flash in the pan. A political novelty. What the wildcat was to the NFL 10 years ago. If this keeps up, MAGA will be doing exactly what it accuses the mainstream GOP of doing: Losing for profit. "We got screwed!!!! Send money."Swaye said:
There were some great candidates. There were some duds. But, on balance, the GOP coug'ed it hard and you have to wonder why that is. I mentioned machine politics, which I think you termed corruption (we agree to some extent here). Why is Kari Lake in such a fight against that sack of turds Dem? It should not be close in this environment when almost all the issues are stacked in favor of the GOP, and yet here we are. I am not saying I have the answer, in fact I said that when I first started typing in the OP, but to not completely obliterate the Dems in this environment is a massive fail and I think a serious post-mortem of why needs to be considered here. I don't think it is all Trump, but I don't think it is all corruption or the media either. Miami-Dade county is as corrupt Dem machine politics as it gets, and Ron won it last night. Winners win. Losers complain about the refs.DerekJohnson said:First of all, there is still some LIPO involved here
Secondly, there were and are many great new candidates on the scene. From Kari Lake to Blake Masters to Tudor Dixon to Joe Kent and several others. These are high-quality people.
Thirdly, I love DeSantis but I disagree with the many on here who say Trump is not electable in '24. He most certainly is electable. We can agree to disagree.
Corruption runs rampant in America.
Obama lost 60 seats in 2010, his first midterms.
Obama picked up 8 seats in 2012. His reelection year.
Obama lost 13 seats in 2014, his second midterms.
65 net House seats lost under Obama.
GOP lost 6 seats in 2016 when Trump was elected.
Trump lost 40 seats in 2018, his only midterm.
The GOP picked up 14 House seats in 2020.
Trump 24 net loss in his 4 years.
GOP gained again last night. But it should have been more because Trump?
By your reasoning the DIMS should have dumped Obama and his policies but instead they're going full bore with Joey V. And they didn't get slaughtered last night but lets just blame Trump for that and not take a deeper dive into why the GOP didn't route Joey's party last night as history tell us? -
The politicians don't matter.
Institutional control of the media and education has the narrative so tightly wrapped, any inconvenient truth is easily dismissed.

2012 would have been a good year for a lost cause. Goldwater in 64 begat Reagan in 80. Nixon was the establishment candidate in 60 and 68. Reagan would have beat Carter in 76 too but Ford was the establishment choice
People forget that the GOP freaked out when Reagan got the nomination in 80 and wanted Ford as co president. True story -

Mike Lee was supposed to be in trouble in Utah. Mitt put him over the top by opposing him

A good question that's never occurred to me. Policy/platform most certainly better in my view. Electability? Probably a wash.Bob_C said:

There was a sizable voter out there that went from Paul to Bernie to Hilary to Biden. The Occupy Wall Street crowd became fervent WEF corporate shills within 10 years. There was a moment to capture them that was missed.GrundleStiltzkin said:

The Left dumped Millions into McMuffins campaign and he got that golden Mitt endorsement too. Never forget, Mitch approves of Mitt more than he approves of Lee.RaceBannon said:Mike Lee was supposed to be in trouble in Utah. Mitt put him over the top by opposing him
But Trump is the issue.
