Are These Staff Grades Fair?

On defense, it’s hard to judge Jimmy right now because right now we have nothing in the front 7. All our talent and depth is in the ‘17 and ‘18 classes.

When Coker and I were going insane about Malloe’s recruiting, Kwat’s recruiting, Pease’s recruiting and recruiting in general, it was BECAUSE OF THIS YEAR (and next).

Our DL has no one. No one.

WE ROTATE SIX GUYS. Our D is predicated on having fresh DL to two gap and collapse pockets.

Gaines is a two gapper but he’s small for that role, Levi isn’t a two gap player. Beggars can’t be choosers and we took Levi even though he wasn’t a perfect fit for our system because he’s good.

To properly execute our scheme we need probably 3-4 high level two gap players and some guys like Levi that can get upfield.

We rotate 6 guys on the DL. SIX. AT LEAST.

In that rotation currently are walk ons John Clark and Josiah Bronson. Shane Bowman was expected to be a major contributor. Walk on Jared Pulu was as well.

We are missing Jaylen (we are playing him at SAM because we are stuck playing 1 gap and small 2 gap players to get some size on the field) up front.

In a few years, when we have players like Bandes, Tuitele, Pa’ama, Tuli and Taki two-gapping, guys like Sirmon behind them, we will be in good shape. Although if we don’t get Heimuli, we are fucked because Tafisi is undersized.

Gregory has been awful at recruiting and his special teams are terrible. He needs to go.

He is so bad I’m literally talking about HS players as saviors. We all know that’s bullshit and we all know he fucking sucks. ILB is the easiest position to find so fuck Gregory. I like him personally and he seems like a good guy, but I know lots of good guys. This isn’t about being a good guy. It’s about being effective at a job. He’s not. The end.

So while I’m happy to shit on all our coaches - I don’t think Jimmy has done anything wrong. Our DBs played (for the most part) great yesterday. With rare pressure.

You can’t scheme to make John Clark an All Pac level player. You can’t.

Him and Josiah should be 7-8 in our rotation and spelling our main guys in scrimmages so they stay fresh and don’t get injured. And in that role - those guys are aces. But right now they are our 3-4 guys and they play half the game. Greg and Levi get worn out because of the tremendous responsibility they have in our D (hence why we want to rotate 6).

So - fuck everyone but unless anyone has a time machine there’s nothing Lake can do.
