Just received email from a former Husky player

"No. This ain't Boise st. Look at the guys he's already bringing in for official visits. All guys he recruited at Boise st."

And they said we were unreasonable

Sark lobbied hard for the SC job and let recruiting go to shit.
1/2 the coaching staff is already out the door, and the other 1/2 is recruiting for SC.
Petersen's staff is influx ...
The fuck he supposed to do? He's got about a month and a half to close deals ... and he is about 13 months behind the rest of the coaches.
What should he be doing ...
Going on a two week golf vacation ... prepping for the BSU bowl game? -
Good point... Save the Ships for next year. Keep the PSA who wants UW, the rest can fuck off. But how do we loose an Idaho recruit?
-
Recruiting always takes a hit when a new coach comes in. This isn't new. Also, it's about the same temperature as early February, but signing day is seven weeks away.
-
Jeezus ... The players Sark recruited are waiting for a text saying "Sup Brah?" ... Probably the same set of teen boyz ...
Lets let it play out...
It will be interesting to see who we get ... Or maybe it won't be ... In that case it will be interesting to see why it wasn't interesting.
Either way abundance. -
I guess I must be missing something. Why and how is it that Petersen will transform UW's football roster into a bunch of Mountain West 2,3,or no-stars that somehow get drafted to stick in the NFL. Even if he wanted to which I'm certain he doesn't, I think it impossible that Petersen could magically move Broncomania to Husky Stadium. But some doogs around here including at least one former Husky player can't seem to shake their envy or hatred of overachieving BSU football long enough to realize that Petersen came to Montlake for the Purple & Gold without a trace of Blue turf in his cleats.
-
Just hope it is a line heavy bunch to salvage the class.
It is possible to get a stellar recruiting class out of the gate. Pete Carroll did it when he took over. Dumbass Bob Toledo said some stupid shit about defense not mattering as much as offense in his program, so Pete Carroll copied the quote and mailed it out to all of UCLA's defensive commits and elite recruits. Carroll ended up getting most of the So. Cal studs that year except Matt Ware. -
What was he saying when Sark was coaching in the Rose Bowl? I'm not trying to be snippy, I just don't want to hear this shit from people that were all jacked up on free pub.
Petersen is in a tough spot. He's not a recruiting wizz. All the kids he was recruiting were Boise State quality. The last coach had pretty clearly checked out of recruiting for this season.
Let him get guys he likes in for this class. It wasn't going to be great even if Sark stayed. If recruiting doesn't get better next year there's reason to be concerned.
This is such typical Seattle loser crying. Sark and Ty get tons of free passes but winners like Carroll and Petersen get shit on. -
Yes. We should do this for all of WSU's defensive recruits. Immediately.Purple_Pills said:Just hope it is a line heavy bunch to salvage the class.

UCLA and USC are in the same city.
Bob Toledo was an idiot.
Recruiting to SC is a lil different than recruiting to Washington ... when you consider "stellar players"
Again ...
Would you rather have Coach Pete going on a well deserved 2 week golf vacation ...
Or would you rather he show up after his bowl game? -
For now, I'll give Coach Pete the benefit of the doubt and gladly take Petersen's overachieving OKG types over some of the AAM (all-about-me) types that Sark catered to. Ultimately, if he doesn't win games (which college coaches are paid to do) then I guess we'll start looking for another coach all over again.

Sure is warm out for February.

I was just shooting down the "recruiting always takes a hit when a new coach comes in" canard. I can cite other examples.
That said, I do not expect Coach Petersen to "win the off season." I don't think he gives a shit where F3 and company rank players. He is just going to go out and try to land the best folks he thinks he can develop and win with. Last I checked he was putting players into the NFL at a bigger clip than Montlake has of late. But I also remember the smaller, slower, weaker team that he brought into Husky Stadium in September. Hopefully the Washington/P12 brand will open a few more doors of guys falling through the cracks in the next month and a half for Petersen. Fans expecting big ***** are going to be disappointed. Fans like me who don't follow recruiting anymore won't know shit about this class for a few years.

You must be new here. -
DJ couldn't recruit when he first arrived either.
Seemed to have worked out OK. -
Sheet, all hope is lost. I give up
-
Anyone know if he has reached out/been talking to guys that were on the fence about us? If he can get even a few of those guys combined with his BSU guys I'd be happy for this year.

You must be new here.
As I said before, I can cite other examples.
Nick Saban at LSU. First thing he did was build a fence around the state of Louisiana.
Dennis Erickson at Oregon State. Landed elite JUCOs who went on to the NFL.
Nick Saban was not a national championship winning coach when he came over from Michigan State. One of the first things he did was get Marquise Hill to commit to LSU over Michigan. Erickson did have a national brand when he took over for Riley at OSU, but so does Chris Petersen. -
Sorry, but I think the former player has a point. I don't completely drink the kool-aid from any coach until he has proven himself at UW (not at boise), including in recruiting. This class is going to suck, and it's not his fault. Any time there is a transition recruiting suffers, but let's see how he salvages this class. Frankly I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude on how petersen performs as a recruiter at UW.
I'm excited about petersen for a number of reasons, but recruiting is one area that has me concerned.
Some people here may not worry about having crappy recruiting classes, but believe it or not bringing in good players matters. -
Lol so people want Sarks "recruiting" back already?
-
Agreed and I assume most others on this bored agree also.
However, developing players also matters, and until now, it's been over 20 years since we had a coach who could develop players. At least Petersen has done so in the past.
We'll get a lot of press if Petersen wins this coming season - and with the shitty schedule that's possible.
That will help future recruiting.
Anyone who thought he should have walked in and begun stealing recruits from the top programs are delusional. We had a shitty class before him and we could end up with a shitty class.
Three years is how long it takes to judge a coach - though you have a pretty good idea before three years.Passion said:Sorry, but I think the former player has a point. Nobody knows dick about who CP is recruiting. He doesn't believe in Doogman "access." LIFPO.
-
While I don't necesarily agree with that particular point, maybe because I don't really follow teen stocking, I also think the doogism over Petersen hire has gone a bit far. Yes, this is a great hire, one that had me pumped like most people here, but we should still observe a wait and see approach on some points now that we had time to digest the news.Passion said:Sorry, but I think the former player has a point. I'll give another example: the "molder of men" personality he has shown since his introduction. Yes, it's a great bonus if he turns out to be this father figure type to the players, but quite honestly () i don't give a shit about that if we don't win games first. I can't believe everybody is sucking his dick so much for things Ty could have said in his times.

He was at Oregon, so he understands P12 recruiting needs.
He recruited well at BSU.
He spoke to Bellotti about Washington being a sleeping giant because of the facilities, traditions, etc.
Win first ... show me championships ... I am on board.
But ... I don't know a fucking thing about chasing young high school players and twitting in their language ... and being a stalker ...
So I can't judge him on his abilities in this area ... If you can pleases elaborate.
I am smart enough to know you just don't walk in and start pulling in 5 star linemen who were never recruited by your predecessor. Well ... unless you are Pete Carroll at SC. -
I'm not worried for a couple of reasons: 1) We don't know what the fuck is going on with coaches. We don't know who the coaches are going to be, who Peterson wants or why, or who wants to be here. People worrying about this shit are the ones who, admit it or not, are buying the bullshit hints and sour grapes that Bleenor and Grinolds are throwing out. 2) We don't know what the fuck is going on with recruiting. We don't know who is being recruited, when their names are going to come out, or when they're going to end up visiting. Let if fucking play out. 3) This fucking recruiting class was going to be a failure under Sarkisian. He was striking out on all the big dogs and, as it turns out, wasn't really trying that hard. The DE recruit that dumped UW was classic "low hanging fruit". Bottom line is that we didn't lose much of anything when recruits decided to follow Sark. If anything, his insistence on dragging his UW recruits with him to USC is likely to weaken USC.
Peterson needs to recruit some depth especially on the OL and interior DL. I don't really care if they are 1* or 5* at this point. Get some fucking bodies and hope like hell a couple are ready to contribute as RS freshmen.
I'm tired of all of this shit. I'm tired of football. When is March madness? -
Some people listen to rhetoric. Others look at results. Thus far Petersen has gotten results. Willingham was a proven failure when the idiots at Washington hired him. Petersen sent an un-athletic small QB from Prosser into the NFL. Willingham whiffed on two first team all-american prep QBs while at Stanford.The_Undertaker said:I can't believe everybody is sucking his dick so much for things Ty could have said in his times.
The idiots who ignored the results and ate up the shit Willingham fed them are still likely idiots today. They'll suck the dick of any leader from their chosen tribe, sports coaches to partisan leaders to Hollywood liars despite the results. It grinds my gears too that these idiots are now on the bandwagon going in the direction I prefer. But just because the bandwagon is mostly traveling in the same direction does not mean we are riding the same bus. There will always be a short bus (like dm.c) to drag these idiots around in. -
