Stacking Classes, Building Depth

If we look at what we are getting over two years so far, it's really nice.
QB: A
2017: Haener (lol)
2018: Sirmon, Yankoff (Eason)
RB: B (this really changes
2017: Salvon
2018: Fig, (Lowe?)
WR: A+
2017: Jones, Bynum, Cook
2018: Osborne, Spiker
TE: A
2017: Bryant, Otton
2018: Culp
OL: B
2017: Bainivalu, Kirkland, Norgaard
2018: Ale, Curne, Mele
DL: C
2017:
2018: Bynum, Liu, Taimani, Tupuola-Fetui
EDGE: D
2017: Tryon
2018:
LB: B-
2017: Ngata
2018: Kaho, Sirmon, Tafisi
DB: C
2017: McKinney, Molden, Taylor
2018: Hampton
THE REST OF THE WAY:
You can see pretty easily that life will improve a lot with maybe one more DT, an EDGE guy and a couple more DBs. Maybe an OL. If we get quality there, we are going to be in the B and up category pretty much everywhere.
NEXT YEAR:
So, this pretty clearly points to what we are going to need next year...
Running back and Edge dudes are going to be especially key next year.
The nice thing is that we are in on three top-level RBs right now (Jones, Davis, Charbonnet) and likely to land at least one. If we replace Boner with Longo, I will be very confident.
At Edge we have always sucked and we will always suck until Coach K stops trying to talk fishing with Kayvon Thibideaux.

I’d agree for the most except linebacker. I think if Kaho signs on the dotted line then it should be more of a B+
-
Eason?
-
What's your opinion of Jeremiah Martin? I feel like we have a decent shot at him.
-
I'm a bit surprised you have LB and DB rated so low. I get the recency bias on DB since this year hinges (in this category anyway) on getting Gordon, but I think you shortchanged the LB classes a half grade.
Clearly our BUCK recruiting sucks shit. -
The deal with LB is that I'm including SAM here and that means in two years, for 3 positions, we have 4 guys. That's not amazing. If we'd hit on Katoa last year (or someone like him) this would be an A-.CuntWaffle said:I’d agree for the most except linebacker. lol, no fucking way. We have no shot at him at all.HuskyClaws said:What's your opinion of Jeremiah Martin? I feel like we have a decent shot at him.
Black kid, SC wants him, our recruiters are Boner and Kwat.
Kwat is going to be like, 'yeah, you're good. Want to see my hunting photos? Don't you just love Montana!?!' and Martin is going to be like "Ehhh..." -

I get what your trying to say but I’m sure Twat would show him photos of shrimping and not hunting.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Pete needs to get all the coaches in the film room and make them watch that Tay-K, Race video on loop.
You want action, you get turned into past tense.
Your boys deep? Well, let’s get to subtraction. -

It’s an example of what recruits are watching and talking about. Gotta know a few choice lyrics, that’s all.
Just tying to throw the staff a bone.
If you like gangster rap and don’t know about it, watch it. -
I'm no professional TBSer, or even an amateur one, but the "stacking classes" concept makes a lot of sense to me, and if the upcoming instate classes are as good as Cokehead insists they are, stacking those on top of this class and the previous class begins to give me a nice little sweatpants boner.

He probably throws better after about 3 Rainier tall boys. They don't have those at UGA. Talk about prime motivation.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Could you add Bronson in on DL for 2017? He looks the part. Is he actually legit or a wild card? What say you on this? Is he extra credit that could raise your grade after semester?

It’s too doogish even for me.theknowledge said:Could you add Bronson in on DL for 2017? He looks the part. Is he actually legit or a wild card? What say you on this? Is he extra credit that could raise your grade after semester?

So Bronson is a JAG. Got it. I asked because I don't know shit about Jimmy's and Joe's and freely admit as much. Hence my super awesome handle and why I pay my 10.95 here and read the well stalked out opinions of Yourself and Coker.

Don't tell @BallzDeep that. He thinks he is guaranteed for the NFLtheknowledge said:So Bronson is a JAG. Got it. I asked because I don't know shit about Jimmy's and Joe's and freely admit as much. I love Bronson, his HS film was really good. And getting him out of a good college program was really solid. He also had a really solid fall camp. I think he’s in our two deeps easily next year.

DB way too low. It's a B at worst. Otherwise good chit.
-
I love Bronson. I just can’t include a walk-on transfer from Temple as evidence of anything until I see him play.

One of the big keys to me is always looking into recruiting across two cycles, since those are the guys most likely to play with each other.

By and large, in a mature program, you want probably close to 70-75% of your starters to be players that will be in the program and starting as RS Sophs at the earliest. That leaves what remains in the 25-30% range filled by players that come into the program and within their first 2 years in the program (Frosh, RS Frosh, and true Soph) that are starting because they are genetic freaks that you can't keep off the field.Dennis_DeYoung said:One of the big keys to me is always looking into recruiting across two cycles, since those are the guys most likely to play with each other.

Looking at our class:
QB: Because we've sucked at recruiting leading into this year's class, we'll either be starting a RS Frosh or true Soph (either Sirmon or Yankoff) UNLESS we can get Eason into the program. The ideal scenario in my mind would be for Eason to transfer in, win the job and start for 1-2 years before being a 1st round draft pick. By that point Sirmon/Yankoff will then become a RS Soph or Junior by the time they win the job. That's ideal comparatively to what we've just had with Browning starting as a true freshman.
RB: Salvon is an absolute stud and will be starting for the next 2 years. Where Trey Lowe fits into the entire picture going forward will be interesting. We need to recruit at least 1, if not 2, guys that are Salvon's caliber in next year's class so that they can come in and play a role as freshman and then be ready to start carrying the load after Salvon likely goes to the NFL after his junior year.
WR: This is an ideal view of how positional recruiting should go. It wouldn't shock me if we find WR recruiting challenging next year and I fully expect Lubick to earn his money. That being said, there's a lot of opportunity in the WR group right now and those with talent will win out.
TE: Bryant followed by Culp is downright amazing. What sets us apart from so many programs is our ability to go multiple with our TEs by being able to run the ball down your throat while also being able to spread you out and throw. Being able to run 2 WRs and 2 TEs going forward is a difference maker for us.
OL: Bain, Curne, and Mele will be very solid starters for us going forward. I tend to think that Kirkland has a chance to be a pretty good guard. Norgaard is a project but he's got another 2 years to get where he needs to get to to play Center. Ale is a project. We can and should aspire to up the ante with recruiting here as there aren't any war daddy types there like a Fozzy. That being said, if we can get 2 guys in each class that we feel fairly confident will be All PAC caliber starters for us that's probably the goal. Assuming we're able to do that I think we're in a pretty good spot on a go-forward basis as I'm not sure anybody in our program at the moment (outside of McGary and Adams) would qualify as a potential early entry candidate.
DL Last year's DL recruiting was an abject disaster. This year's has 2 moderately strong options in Bynum and Taimani. Bronson I do think will be a player for us. As Pepsi mentioned, he was very noticeable in the practices that I went to and I expect that he'll be in the rotation next year. This year was as much about quantity as it was about quality (obviously abundance was ideal). We'll need to continue to up our game here next year as we really need a few war daddy's as right now looking through our depth after Jaylen and Levi and I'd say we have a lot of JAGs at the moment and the future outlook would suggest we may be playing a few guys before they are ready in the near future.
LB I actually like our depth heading into next year (BBK, Beavers, Wellington, and Eifler) and adding a strong class this year led by Kaho (who I fully expect will play in the depth and special teams this year before starting as a true Soph). I would imagine that at least one of the guys in this year's class will likely play somewhere on the outside but not BUCKs. I really like where this position is at right now as there's potential for a guy like Kaho to work his way into the rotation because from a talent standpoint he's elite but there are guys in front of him that will require him to earn the position.
BUCK: Another to-date abject failure. Tyron looks the part but he's still probably 2 years away at best. There's no war daddy on the roster anywhere in the future. That's a big problem when you figure that our DL quality/depth is going to take a hit after this offseason. A MASSIVE target area for the Class of 2019. We desperately need an elite pass rusher to recognize that he can come in and play early to increase the quality at the position. Otherwise, very possible that we'll be playing some JAG at some point and quite possibly someone before they are either ready to play or at a level (starting) that they aren't qualified for.
DB: We'll see where this one winds up this year. We're getting pretty good quality here but not entirely sure that the quantity is where we need it to be going forward given our desire to play 5 at a time. There will be a massive hole in the secondary after next season when we will lose Miller, McIntosh, very possibly Rapp, and quite possibly Murphy. If all that happens we're going to be in a massive depth hole where there's a very good chance that we'll be playing a guy before he's ready. -
I think TE is going to be a real strength. I noticed Kizer blocking pretty well against WSU.
Bryant is a stud. Culp has massive potential. He’s going to be a force with the ball in his hands.
I like Otton too. He just needs to get big in the weight room because he will be a smart, physical player. -
Otton is the next great white TE for us. Will maul people when he is blocking and be a good safety valve for the QB.
