I wrote an article some years ago, like 4 games into Petersen's tenure or something, and looked at run vs pass calls at a high level and basically attributed it to using the talents of the biggest star... ie Ian Johnson vs kellen moore. Obviously there are a number of reasons why that could have been the case and the retrospective suggest am alternate hypothesis was in play.
Boise State the ball under Harsin as OC and passed with Pease and Prince. Looking at Pease record as an OC is incredible... Sarkisianian... how can someone fail into so many jobs?
But yeah, it all comes down to Pete is who he has always been... a great coach who loves idiot OCs. I think he just thrives on the under dog mentality which is why we run the shitty offense we do and why he loves try hards.
If he didn't actually want to win a national championship which I think he finally realized couldn't happen at Boise he would still be there doing the same as ever. I am hopeful his desire to win a national championship will cause him to eventually adapt and learn how to play football from a position of dominance. -
