Defense, yes. Offense, almost. Overall, not quite.

Agree. Defense last year was good enough to compete for a NT. Don't see the backfield situation costing us a game before the season starts on 12/1/17. Gut tells me Offense won't be good enough to get us to the finals, however. A Pac 12 freshman offensive player of the year contender could help though as we move out of the midget receiver era.

If we have a decent right and left guard we can compete for a national

We had decent guards last year.

They have to be better than decent.

They can't pitch a shutout in the playoffs.

Truth, but this wasn't a "will the defense be good enuff to cover for the offense pole", rather, will we have a NT caliber defense in 2017?

Yes. But the Question is will it be good enough to beat USC and Darnold ? Tall order

I think they are. But remains to be seen whether we can put points on the board against an elite defense. Didn't happen in 2016- i.e., 13 against SC and 7 against Bammer.

Right guard was work in process. Jake E was on that level. The whole game plan was to go at lil nick

Harris couldn't hold up against the best front 7 in college football. That doesn't mean he wasn't decent.

If you're saying we need guards who are decent against the best in the nation then you are saying we need guards who are more than decent.

Great fucking Kreist. You fuckers are not even getting to the playoffs this year. Do you understand how difficult it is to even get there at all, much less during consecutive years.

    NTD, BB round #2
Here is what round #2 vs whatever other team happens to be there if you make it, looks like. That's a very big, unlikely IF BTW.

Agree, we don't have a NT caliber offense still, so sum of the parts isn't there most likely. But the pole was only about defense. Few teams get there w/o being elite on both sides of the ball.

I'm not sure Faggart deserved a tee hee.

    Faggart is a funny nickname.

Your defense is good but you have the same problem Oregon did. Big fast guys > smaller fast guys. Which is why the South/SEC always wins. I agree about the offense. It sucks balls.

Of the 8 teams who have made the playoffs and had an opportunity to return (IOW, all playoff teams except 2016 because we don't know who has returned from that pool yet), three made it two years in a row. So the answer to the second part of your statement is 37.5%. And the first part is irrelevant since UW already did it.

So chances are UW doesn't make it back this year, but it's far from a lock.

BTW, the odds UW makes it back within the next two years are 50%, and the odds UW makes it back both of the next two years are 25%.

    Honk em.
