    Yes - By mid season our D will be good enough to keep us in the game with anyone

    Agree. Defense last year was good enough to compete for a NT. Don't see the backfield situation costing us a game before the season starts on 12/1/17. Gut tells me Offense won't be good enough to get us to the finals, however. A Pac 12 freshman offensive player of the year contender could help though as we move out of the midget receiver era.

    We had decent guards last year.

    They have to be better than decent.

    Truth, but this wasn't a "will the defense be good enuff to cover for the offense pole", rather, will we have a NT caliber defense in 2017?
