Highly recommend this piece by Peter Beinart, who is a liberal pundit, detailing how FS the Democratic party has become on the immigration issue. Klein asked whether, in order to fight global poverty, the U.S. should consider “sharply raising the level of immigration we permit, even up to a level of open borders.” Sanders reacted with horror. “That’s a Koch brothers proposal,” he scoffed. He went on to insist that “right-wing people in this country would love … an open-border policy. Bring in all kinds of people, work for $2 or $3 an hour, that would be great for them. I don’t believe in that. I think we have to raise wages in this country.”

    I don't think anyone denies we need better border security. The issue that Trump brings up is the wall, which is FS. You can accomplish better border security without wasting the money on a wall.

    I can summarize in two sentences.

    Low-skilled and uneducated native born Americans cannot effectively compete in a free market against third-world labor despite being born with every economic and educational advantage possible.

    If ever there was greater or more complete evidence, the truth of the matter is that white trash are suffering the consequences of their own making and neither bill Clinton, Obama or trump (neither pandering GOP or Dems) can save them with foolish and nativist economic policies.

    We still need bodies because population growth has stagnated. I'm fine with slowing the flow of immigrants but I'm also ok with modest levels of economic growth. It's hard to have both if your population base isn't having babies.
