Agree with most, but sticking to my guns on the poor play calling. Smith is a cancer, and piling up stats on shitty teams didn't help UW execute in the crunch, when they needed it most. Stats arguments obscure the make or break plays that kept the dawgs from being a lot better on offense. Think Saban's ever satisfied with his O or D? That's what makes champions.

I thought I made it clear the playcalling fucked us and that I don't love Petersen's offensive philosophy. There is a grey area though, and I recognize how much growth the offense showed this season, to the surprise of many of us here.

I wish Smith was long gone, but it's not all doom and gloom.

I'll leave you with one thought. An ESPN analyst just made a comment that made me spit out my beer laughing. Went something like: Scarbrough ran through more Huskies than the Iditarod! ROTFLMMFAO!

How significant was Tedford to the offensive turnaround from last season the the first half of this season? It seems once the training wheels were removed (when he left about the time of the USC game) the offensive production become much more sporadic. Except for the the TD pass to Pettis, Browning was making a mess in his pants. I think much of the blame for the offense is Smith, which ultimately means Petersen. I hope this inaugural CFP berth shows Petersen he needs to replace Smith.

I don't care what was called today ... guys weren't open.

If you can't understand WHY we struggled offensively today, where it starts, and the attributes that contribute to it, then it's way too easy to just sit back and say "the play calling sucks"

Fuck I'm agreeing way to much with Teq tonight. It's like he's sharing just the right amount of information or something.

I watched from home. So enlighten us. Smith did nothing to establish the run game. We became one-dimensional, playing to the strength of the top rated defense. Except for the TD pass to Pettis, it looked to me that Browning and Ross didn't trust the play calling and tried to force things. I think this team needs: new OC, a real QB, OL depth, and improved special teams, especially punting. Watching Bama's punter reminded me of James' teams. Maybe a new HC is needed since Petersen is not comfortable having a "target on his back." I want a tough minded brawler with the intelligence of Peteresen as HC. Besides the defense, the team is too soft. It was a great season. But to truly become elite again is going to take more than a PR (purple reign, the pursuit, etc.) campaign.

Having considered your points, there is but one conclusion: The play calling sucks.

Alabama's defense is on a very short list for the best I've ever seen ... unbelievable speed and they just didn't make many mistakes.

This idea of running on Alabama ... nobody has really done that well against them for 6-7 years. Our OL is very good in some spots and very average (or worse) in others ... we spent the balance of the night trying to protect with 6-7 in the pass game against 4-5 from Alabama. The weakness of our OL was up the middle which made running there a challenge ... if you ran to the outside Alabama is so fast running wide that you really can't get an edge sealed ... to say it is tough is an understatement ...

Ross was double covered all night ... they had 2 deep safeties over the top to take away the shots to both Ross and Pettis ... Because we were so focused on protection we often only had 3-4 receivers against 6-7 defenders ... Bama was playing those situations with an aggressive man under to go with the help over the top. When our WRs aren't able to create separation then you have some massive problems throwing the ball.

Alabama's punter was as good as I've ever seen at the college level ... outstanding.

I'm not against a new OC but this wasn't at his feet ...

The next UW starting QB is likely Jacob Sirmon in the 2019 season ...

We need national caliber OL ... this is the biggest recruiting miss of this staff to date ...

And BTW, our punt game today was actually pretty good ... not a problem at all
National caliber OL's aren't developed overnight. By all means we need those guys, but we need jumps out of the young guys for next year. Roberts, Wattenberg, etc need to shoot the roids. Nick Harris will be a great Husky OL.

QB's are like coaches. Hit or miss. I like the idea of Sirmon because he's dripping with talent, but that's only half the battle at QB. We do need more Sirmon's and less plan D's like we have gotten.

I agree it's not all on Smith. I would blame Browning more. Still would have been nice to pound the rock more, minimize mistakes and let Hurt's beat us rather than gifting them.

What, Petersen is now an untouchable? I was an early advocate for Petersen on these boreds, and suffered sufficient ridicule to smoke my bong the way I want. I will put my bong down when others stop blowing smoke up his ass. My only criticism about Petersen is the softness on the team besides the defense. I think his comfort about wanting to play the spoiler's role speaks to this. He needs to develop the toughness that welcomes having a target on his back and to become an intelligent brawler. Toughness with discipline.

There is exactly ZERO evidence to suggest that this is the case ... is it because he started as a true freshman so therefore he will be a great lineman?

You do realize that IF Fozzy was to come here, that the starting OL next year probably consists of the following moving from LT to RT:

    Adams
    Fozzy
    Shelton
    Wattenburg
    McGary

Heaven forbid we were able to make a significant move at the end and get 1-2 high end OL to finish out this class?

Or to your point that we need Roberts to make a jump, if he does, then he also goes right into the OL rotation at the risk of Harris's spot?

And, you do realize that the reason Wattenburg didn't play this year was largely due to illness and not performance? Now that he's recovered from that, he should be all systems go for next year ... and his film was SIGNIFICANTLY better than Nick Harris's film?

You're a fucking faggot if you're ripping on an 18 year old that started for a 12-2 playoff team and conference champion. Just shut the fuck up.
