Saban rebuilt LSU from the walking dead to a National Championship in a few short years and repeated that act by rebuilding Alabama from mediocre to a program that has since won several National Championships. And he did all of this in a very competitive SEC. Kelly has never recruited in the same stratosphere as Saban at LSU or Alabama, nor has he built the kind of teams that win National Titles. What Kelly did at Oregon was elevate an already good and stable program from good to very good occasional first losers. That's not Nick Saban. At all.
Kelly did far better at Oregon than Saban at Michigan State
LSU and Bama are never short on talent regardless of who the coach is
Kelly inherited a well oiled machine with major financial backing that needed a few tweaks. Kelly finished his first year with the same record Bellotti had the year before, though kudos to Kelly for being first loser in the Rose Bowl.
Saban inherited a dumpster fire at MSU, a team that was forced by scandal to forfeit the few wins they garnered the year before he took over. And you're old enough to know full well that neither Bama nor LSU click without the right coach. Same goes for USC, another team never short on talent. At this point it's just plain silly to compare Kelly to Saban. -

BTW the best comp for Kelly isn't Saban, it's Petersen at Boise. He took an already established good program to heights never seen before or after him.
