Follow the money. Scientists are all for in depth research in clean energy, global warming research, etc. That's how they get paid. If they come out and say it isn't as big of a deal as people think, their funding gets cut, and some lose their cushy jobs. Greed is an inherent vice of all people. Unfortunately, greed is a natural occurrence in society today, which is why some checks and balances are necessary.
