Clean up the special teams a little and Clumpson wins. There was no excuse for that.

@RaceBannon - I feel like an ass-hat defending Dabo because... I'M NOT A BIG DABO GUY... but... Rick took over TUFF Lambo players and made them enjoy football. Then when he got players that JUST wanted to enjoy football, we were UCLA with Washington athletes.
In Dabo's case he's built it up 'the right way' by taking over for Tommy BowdSark and slowly changing the culture.
Of course at a school like Clemson, one or two special players are going to make a huge difference. It's not a blue-blood school. A guy like Deshaun is a special player, but the whole team has good players and generally plays really well.
I think Clemson is basically 1 recruiting class away from having the kind of depth that you need to sustain the kind of injuries they've had.
Clemson's #1 and #3 WRs were out for that game and their 2 best players on D were either hobbled or out.
I think if you took Deshaun and put him on a team like Michigan you would see a very, very similar result; Oregon, etc...
Anyway, I take your point, but I don't think Dabo is just riding on Deshaun; as in, I don't think it's a Chizik situation or Neu situation where, once this guy's gone the whole fucking thing is over. I just think that naturally when you have the best QB in the history of your school (at one of these 2nd tier schools), the play will dip following that, until you get another guy just as good. -
Didn't Dabo beat urban in the orange bowl without deshaun. Too lazy to look.
Not the biggest Dabo fan because of his demeanor, but he built a legit top 10 program.
He is far from anything related to sark. And he is not saban. Bfd.
Done as much if not more than harbaugh in his college career who this board likes to place in high regard.

Talent wise, Clemson is becoming a modern day blue blood. They have been had a lot of talent for awhile. And successful. This is their fifth year in a row winning 10+ games. No doubt that Deshaun is a special player, but they were good before him. They beat Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.Dennis_DeYoung said:@RaceBannon - I feel like an ass-hat defending Dabo because... In general, he's a really good coach running a good program. I would love to think our coach kind of sucked, but we were going 13-1. -
Arguing that Clemson is a 'modern day blue blood' is crazy IMO. Talented yes, but no more so than Mississippi.RoadDawg55 said:

Coaching matters. Players are talented, for sure, but nothing close to 'true' blue blood status like USC, Ohio State, Bama...
Miami in its heyday was a 'modern blue blood'. Clemson is not close to that talent wise. -
Speaking of talent, some players from Clemson last few years:
CJ Spillner
Sammy Watkins
DeAndre Hopkins
Martavis Bryant
DeQuan Bowers
Stephon Anthony
All have made a pro bowl.
-
The crazy thing is, that team lost its entire front seven from last year.section_332 said:Speaking of talent, some players from Clemson last few years:

Which means they should be at least two years away from being specialDennis_DeYoung said:

Yes, I said that to myself when I heard that last night -
You think Clemson's roster is 16 points of Saban better than Bama's roster?RoadDawg55 said:
No, shades of Sark because Dabo was the sole reason Clemson lost. The game reminded me of when Sark lost to Stanford. The sole reason Clemson lost was discipline. If Saban and him switched rosters he would have lost by 21.dnc said:Shades of Sark? Sark hardly ever lost close, when Sark lost he got destroyed. Shades of Peterman maybe.
Clemson played a damn good game. Perhaps you're just bitter because you decided Bama was shit once they lost to Ole Miss? That was nothing like a Sark game.
Never once in my life said Bama was shit. I've always said they were good. I didn't think Coker could lead them to a title, but he stepped up. Pretty big difference from saying they were shit. I've said Ole Miss is shit because they are.
Holy crap.

Dabo earned his stripes last night.

He earned his stripes by building Clemson up to the point they reached the title game. He shit the bed last night.topdawgnc said:Dabo earned his stripes last night.

He didn't shit the bed, Saban's just a little bit better than him. No need to resort to hyperbole. It was a one score game where Clemson was able to both contain Henry and run Gallman for a touchdown. They should've gone into half up by three if Bama hadn't gotten a finger on the kick. Sabes schemed the two or three plays that made the difference, but I don't see how you can say Dabo actively held his team back.RoadDawg55 said:

I was really impressed with Clemson's front 7, particularly their DL talent / depth.
Things look good for them in the ACC other than FSU. Miami is rebuilding again with Richt and NC, NC State, and Virginia aren't threats. Georgia Tech went 1-7 in the ACC last year. -

Lost by 5 points.
Nobody predicted 5 years ago he would be here.
.742 winning percentage
Dude, you're fucking stoned. -
Such dipshit, Roaddoog.
At least Clemson was competitive, unlike your boyfriend D'Antonio. -
Thank you. Losing by 5 to the best coach of his generation is not shitting the bed.doogsinparadise said:

He got outcoached by Saban. Basically everyone besides Urban does. -

What about me? -
Look at the points, in the last three years the only teams that scored more against Bama than Clemson were '13 aTm, ''13 Oklahoma, 14 Auburn, '14 Ohio State, and inexplicably, '15 Ole Miss.

This thread should be nuked. If only the Mods would intervene.

Why are you guys pretending this was David vs Goliath? It wasn't. Clemson was undefeated and ranked #1 for a reason. They are good and have the best QB in the country. They lost because they were severely out coached.
I don't know how you couldn't be furious if you were a Clemson fan. I just don't see Saban or Meyer's teams blowing coverages that badly and being so ill prepared on special teams. That is typically something average and shitty teams do, not ones in the title game. But by all means, keep giving Dabo back slaps and orange slices for a good effort.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lOL2h8F3aA

Exactly. Very similar program profiles.Dennis_DeYoung said:
lulz at the idea that Clemson isn't an ACC Washington. The team history is basically exactly the same. They've had ONE natty team ('81) and have gone up/down the rungs of good mediocrity sometimes having runs where they are consistently in the top 25.dnc said:
Surely you don't think Clemson is a job where a 7 win coach at UW can win 13 games?Doogles said:I don't think Clemson played soft, but I had the thought that Dabo's general heart on the slave antics were Sarkish. He was bitching and whining the whole game. His players believe in him, which is more than I can say for Sark, but there is a lot of sizzle with Dabo.
He would never do better than 7-6 at Washington.
Dabo might not win a title here but he could win double digits rather easily. He's not a great coach but he doesn't suck.
I'm not a big Dabo guy, but what he's done is undeniable IMO. He took a program that was being run by a Sark-like guy (Tommy B.) and built this shit into a space where we were in a Natty and are poised to be really fucking good next year.
Spot on. -
I'm ruling in favor of Road on this one. Is it harsh to say Dabo sucked while he had his unbeaten squad contend valiantly for the title? Yes it is but some of you need to check what bored you are on. Just about every team and coach sucks.
If that had been our DAWGS we would have been pissed. Old half brain law - special teams are on the head coach. We got that from James. So did Saban. So that is on Dabo and he got worked hard on special teams. Announcers said they had issues all year.
We would hate our secondary too. Anyone remember the Holiday Bowl against Texas? At least our guys were in the same area code when they got burnt to a crisp.
Dawgman would be saying how proud they are of our DAWGS for the fight. Hardcore Husky would want Petersen fired.
