Maybe the Gaskin needs 25+ carries is overblown, but it you honestly think this over analytical pass happy offense hasn't cost UW multiple games, DIAFF because you are a hopeless doog.

Stop. Bugging. Me.

There's something to conserving a small back, but that just means you bring in another back once in a while.
1st down - bubble screen to Gaydon Mickens for - 1 yds
2nd down and 11 - run it for 3 yards
3rd down and 8 - incomplete pass
3 and out
stupid play calling
No, it's not on fucking execution, and even if it was, that's still on coaches somewhat
We know what guys like Mickens are now.
So run the ball more. -

The offense is the problem, schematically, play calling, (lack of) development, etc. Other than maybe OL development and non WR recruiting I don't see one thing to be optimistic about regarding the offensive coaching.
Fucking dreckfest. -
This offense is fucked so deeply from a scheme point it's unfixable this year unless we went super vanilla. It's like Pete handed Smith a bunch of crayons and told him to draw the coolest shit possible as long as it was in shotgun or wildcat. Meanwhile, smart coaches everywhere keep it simple and try to beat the other team's ass on the ground when they have a true frosh QB and young OL. Pete should be fired on the basis of sheer stupidity for being so stubborn with this "innovative" offense. Fuck.

Yeah but the commentators think Smiff is creative and stuff.

But how does Pete share similarities with Sark?

I think there is a problem related to offensive philosophy. Our coaches (babushka and Petersen) assume that 2nd and 6 is a passing down. They assume that a pass on 2nd and 6 is going to be more effective than running Gaskin, and will create a more achievable situation on 3rd down.
Because our WRs struggle to get separation, and because browning still "isn't there," this is a false assumption. As we know, it often leads to an incomplete pass, or a gain of 0 yards (bubble screen).
At the end of the year I would like to see a statistic showing the percentage of plays where positive yards were achieved on pass attempts versus run attempts. -
I judge an offense based on how many times they end up at 4th and 1 after a 3rd down pass. And UW is great at that as are most shitty offenses. It's because they "take what the defense gives them" and the defense gives them short of the line.
A running back is moving forward. Our receivers are moving sideways or backwards.
Throw in Petersen's lack of guts to go for it and we suck again.gif -
I see everything you guys are describing. Can't really disagree with any of it. And yet, Peterman's BSU teams ran the shit out of the ball. My sense is that his offensive scheme and playcalling at UW are being heavily influenced by some pretty glaring personnel deficits, both in terms of talent and experience. Going ultra-conservative, and trusting your stout defense to keep you in games to the end, has given UW a puncher's chance in several games that could (should?) have been blowouts. Peterman's sideline demeanor tells me he doesn't like what they're doing on offense any more than we do. My guess is that the offense will look a lot different in a year or two.

"Stubborn in the run game."
This quote, that Peterman has used multiple times, is as troubling as "House Money." It really, really bothers me and IMO should greatly concern the rest of you. We are treading into "the coaches know more than us" territory if it doesn't.
I share some optimism about the improvement, especially with Browning, but holy fuckall..
I can't see Peterman keeping it simple next year and giving it to Gaskin 25 times and letting D-Wash, McGrew, whoever the hell else get another 10-15 carries.
If we actually played like Utah or Stanford, teams that Peterman says he wants to be like, we would have a chance at 10+ wins next year.
