Somebody said something bad about Hondo's boyfriend
it would seem obvious to everyone but the most dense among us that we would prefer that Obama do nothing until his ass is out of there -
I agree with you that something needs to be done. But granstanding isn't going to help push his bill through.2001400ex said:
You clearly prefer your leader to do nothing. Got it.sarktastic said:so, why not focus on the leader who is leading this fucked up grandstanding?
He also needs to get rid of the gun ristrictions. If you are sane law-abiding citizen, you should be able to own whatever gun you want. I am however, completely for very strict background checks, even if it causes an extra day or two delay. -
what 'needs to be done'
What would have prevented this? -
I was speaking in generalities. In this situation he probably would have flew under the radar anyways. I think looking into history of mental health would have prevented some of these other people from getting the guns necessary to commit these horrible acts.sarktastic said:what 'needs to be done'

Again, I'm for keeping guns away from lunatics, and more strict background checks should help. Criminals on the other hand not at all. Criminals are criminals, they'll get guns like criminals do, and it won't matter. The only way to prevent this is to give more strict sentences for gun crimes, which the proposal is doing.
If the government removes the gun restriction and the pork fund to pay for mental health awareness I'll be for it. But that's probably not going to happen.
Edit: And before you say it isn't a gun restriction...
Any law that restricts the type of gun I can purchase in the future is a gun restriction. -
Mental illness records are protected same as if you have full blown aids. Tough to commit folks these days, even tougher to broadcast that they are nuts.
-
So... you got nuttin'?? Just a few feel good generalities? Not to pick on you, but, that's the point.
There is no specific legislation anyone can point to that would have prevented this. Obama's grandstanding simply calls attention to the fucked up shooter... while calling attention to the inherent danger that seemingly lurks in gun free zones. -
Then maybe they should fix that. People have to sign HIPPA forms when they apply for life insurance products, so it might be wise to have people sign a HIPPA form when applying to get a gun. Lawyers can argue that it isn't relevant, and all the lawmakers have to say is that medical records will help determine if someone is mentally stable enough to own a a gun.RaceBannon said:Mental illness records are protected same as if you have full blown aids. They should but somehow it never comes up does it?greenblood said:

It doesn't, which is why I'm skeptical of any gun law that's proposed. Which is why I'm absolutely against a law that takes rights away from citizens that are following the law and are mentally stable.RaceBannon said:

Obviously you can't fix it completely, but the government needs to set up a system that prevents people that shouldn't have guns to have guns. Again, it wouldn't have helped in this instance.sarktastic said:So... you got nuttin'?? Just a few feel good generalities? Not to pick on you, but, that's the point.

However, I feel that the government would rather just stomp on the rights of everybody, then stomp on the rights of just the mentally unstable. This is why I'm skeptical that anything will pass.
I am completely against the grandstanding because his grand standing is for a possible bill that will take fundamental rights away from everyday citizens. And trying to use this platform to do it, is wrong to the upmost degree.
