Sorry for your loss Derek. Cancer is harsh, my family has been hit with it a few times recently.

Very sad and touching story, Derek. It's weird how much Husky Football obviously plays in our lives. I know this is a Husky Football website and that you must have hundreds of other memories of your sister, but you have Husky Football related memories. It really is weird how a college football team plays such a role. And I have the same thing with my siblings.

Derek,
Sorry for your loss ... Finding cures for cancer should be the priority of medical research as we should never lose someone so young -
You finally found something to write about that I won't make a smart ass comment about.
My sister is the person I love most in this world. I can't imagine losing her. I'm genuinely sorry for your loss.
Also, will you start a Go Huskies chant at her funeral? -
My absolute sincere condolences for your loss, Derek. Let us know if there's anyway we can help honor her memory.
-
My heart goes out to you. Nothing any of us can say will make it hurt any less. Hang in there.
Like @allpurpleallgold I, too, have a sister who I love to death. She was essentially my mom growing up, as my actual mom died when I was young. I can't imagine losing her. -

This site usually doesn't make a guy get dusty. Really sorry for your loss Derek. I will try to burn a piece of my sectional in memorium. Hope you all find peace.
-
Your sister knew Jonah Hill? Bad ass!
-
Geezus....am sitting here waiting for them to finish my breakfast burritos and it got really dusty in here.
Great write-up. -
I read it. Keep your head up and remember the good times.
-
Derek thoughts are with you and your family.
-
Fuck cancer.
-
This is the first time I've teared up on this site from something other than laughing my ass off at something ridiculous and/or obscene. Abundance, most likely. I'm sorry for your loss, DJ. It's probably not that comforting to have a bunch of shitheads like us on your side, but we(?) are. Btw, you really showed your technical gifts on that one.
-
So sorry for your loss, DJ.

Of the Coney Island Johnsons?
RIP Jennifer. Way too young. -
I lost my sister to breast cancer a few years ago. She was in her mid 40's. I know what you are going through. Truly sorry for your loss.
-
Great write-up Derek. Thank you for sharing.

The contrast of watching the Woodinville kids celebrating and you then receiving that text really got me.
Please accept my condolences. -
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, and your family. God Bless

Very sorry to read of this Derek. My sincere condolences to you and your family. I liked very much the honesty of your piece here. None of us, however hard we try to portray otherwise, have a perfect set up, particularly where family is concerned. The part about retreating to your separate adult lives really rings true with me (as I suspect it does with others here).
Sounds like you were a good brother, and she a good sister. I'm glad you were able to be there in her final weeks and play a part in sending her off to the other side.
Best wishes,
Creep -
Sorry to hear of that Swaye.Swaye said:I lost my sister to breast cancer a few years ago. She was in her mid 40's. I know what you are going through. Truly sorry for your loss.

RIP, sorry for you loss
cancer has taken multiple loved ones from me. Fuck that disease. -
RIP and Fuck Cancer... my condolences to you and your family Derek, very emotional story (as I pretend to not cry...).
-
Fucking horrible man. Fucking horrible.

Unfortunately, all these breast cancer awareness weeks, livestrongs, and other bullshit hype hasn't meant shit. I firmly believe that if the drug companies wanted a cure for cancer they would have one by now. There may have been a few improvements, but cancer rates are through the roof compared to even 20 years ago. And they're still treating cancer the same way they treated it 40 years ago....basically feeding you rat poison and making you pay for extremely expensive treatment.Tequilla said:Derek,

Anyone who does any kind of independent study is swiftly silenced and shut down for 'practicing medicine without a license.' There has been plenty of leads that have seemed to get somewhere only to be shut down by the FDA.
Cancer is a terrible, terrible thing. But so are the big pharma companies, the FDA and the gubermint. And the fact is, whether you believe they have a hand in it or not, these organizations make more money if cancer exists than if it doesn't. And if you want to try some experimental drug that the corrupt FDA hasn't yet approved, you will be arrested and jailed. My grandpa was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and was in a really bad way from due to the Agent Orange exposure. He had to go to Mexico to get some experimental medicine even though American doctors basically told him to wait and die.
I'm sorry for your loss, Derek. And I'm sorry that we still have to deal with this horrible disease that should have been eradicated years ago. -
Beautifully written. RIP.
On a personal note, thank you Derek for starting this site and allowing us a free and unfiltered venue to live out our addiction to the Dawgs.
If Pete successfully revives the program, I will continue to urge you to write a book. Dedicating it to your sister is a great idea.
