You forgot "I never fault a kid for choosing a Stanford education"
The hard thing is that I can't blame a kid for choosing a Stanford education ...
But at the same time, if UW football was winning 10+ games per year, competing for conference championships, and consistently putting players into the NFL at that position, there's no tangible reason to go elsewhere given the UW Alumni Network and connections.
It just is what it is at this point and the only solution is to win.

I could think of one. A Standord degree? Thinking that a UW degree is the equivalent of a Stanford one to the rest of the world is the academic equivalent of dooging.
No question that a Stanford degree is more highly esteemed than the UW degree ...
That being said, the reaches where UW alumni are in the business world and the connections that you can have at the UW are also very strong ... particularly if a member of the UW football program.

Petersen needs to win. Now.
