About the Defense...

Watching these guys, they seem pretty vulnerable.
Yet, they are pretty consistent over 60 minutes.
CSU-21
Davis-10
WSU-24
tOSU-24
MD-20
Rutgers-19
Those are all pretty solid performances for a squad that has some holes in the roster.

What is this "defense" of which you speak?
-
The opening drive was obviously so horrific that you just laugh, especially given that it's against Rutgers and a QB that got cut from Minnesota.
Walters has been somewhat underwhelming so far. No doubt an upgrade over Stevie though.
-
Rutgers, third straight opponent with a bye before playing UW.
Meanwhile UW is dragging their ass across the country and playing #1 at home. 3 straight weeks of college football action.
Scoreboard baby.
-
The defense is … not good
-
-
No excuses, but I think this does factor into our early game struggles.
-
It absolutely does and it is fucking crazy.
The scripted first drives have been killing UW.
The defense is solid. Having Davis back is good.
That said, Rutgers shouldn't have that many yards.
-
When you watch the D there is nothing they are good at. DL/DT get no pressure, get drug 2 yards by rb for extra yards, our blitzes don't get home, middle of field is open for crossers and sit downs all game, cb's can't turn and find ball in air, etc etc
And yet when game is over, they've given up a point total in today's game that you can win many games with especially with what Demond can do on offense.
I keep waiting for the game where someone puts it on us. Maybe UCLA?
-
This defense isn't really all that different from the KDB era. They give up a lot of annoying yards. They miss a fuck ton of tackles. The defensive line is undermatched and they get stood up all the f'n time. They commit stupid penalties.
Yet they make plays when they need to and keep teams at bay in the red zone more than other teams do to UW.
It's infuriating… because we all know it's not the most sustainable thing.
-
UCLA is looking like it will be a tough game, but they don’t throw the ball well enough to pile it on.
Illinois is a sneaky pick for scoring a lot on us, but it helps the game is at home.
-
Michigan is obviously going to play their 2023 shit all over and try to bury us with their overrated QB
-
It will and should be the identical game plan to 2023 and when we went back there under Lake. Run for 4, run for 4, run for 3 fd, run for 5 run for 5 fd, run for 2, sit down route for 7, run for 3 fd, etc etc.
Unlike Maryland, Michigan will be more than happy to run until we puke on it, but Moore will use Underwood with slightly more play action and designed roll outs and dedicated qb runs that Harbaugh did with McCarthy to showcase his toy.
-
I actually think UW stacks up a hell of a lot better again a one dimensional offense than they have with these teams they've struggled with. UW can't stop QB's that get outside of the pocket.
-
Michigan will have like 40 mins time of possession and steamroll UW
-
Their QB is awful. If UW can stop the run at all we're sitting pretty.
-
If Bryant and Esteen could tackle, this would be a good defense.
The DL is weak, and needs 2 new, very good portal DLs next year.
McLaughlin's vision and the turnovers he creates are really helping this D look decent. -
That’s the issue. Michigan’s run game will roll. UW’s run defense is … not good
-
UW is currently 13th in the nation in run defense. SC is like 30th and held Michigan to 72 yards rushing in the first half.
This isn't your Harbaugh Michigan team dude. Their rushing numbers are inflated by 400 yards against Central Michigan.
They can run it, ya… but they can't throw at all. I think they won't be able to keep pace with UW. -
Negadoog

Good points and It helps that Jayvon Parker is back. I thought Bryce Butler had a good game and I thought there was some talk that Elinneus Davis had been dinged but should be fully healthy by Michigan?
Though he is oft-injured, Durfee is a pretty good edge. I'm not sure if he'll be back for Michigan though, his injury may have been more of a 4-6 week thing (and it will have been 3 weeks after he got hurt against Ohio State).
Justice Haynes looks like he is banged up and hasn't played at all in the 2nd half. I'm slightly doogin' on that for next week.

Michigan looks bad on D.
-
DAWGS are beating Michigan
-
Michigan looks bad on D, but that’s nothing compared to how atrocious they look on offense.
