Do you think this just happens by accident?

I don’t think we can give UW too much credit for Fire Lake. Jen’s text threads with AMC showed it. It was going to be a “teaching moment” or some similar bullshit for him but Lake rejected it and forced them to fire him.
-
The problem with your analysis here is that Sark was not highly thought of back in 2008 and Lake was a lazy hire.
UW is 2 for 4 on great hires (Pete & Fats) and in LIPO mode for number 5.

There’s a level of competitiveness in the Midwest culture that doesn’t exist in Washington. I saw a young mom trash talk her own 6 year old son after she beat him at a game of foosball.
We joke about all the different options that exist for outdoor recreation in Seattle but it’s true. A lot of that outdoor stuff is non-competitive. Go to Ohio and sure, there are outdoor options available but so much of that state is meh and so there’s a huge focus on sports and competition that absolutely permeates the culture of the state. Hence, @RaceBannon saying tOSU’s admin is more scared of their fanbase.
There’s another piece of this. A lot of people have mentioned needing an organization will to win and that’s necessary but the part getting left out is the ability and know how needed to win. UW seems to lack the ability and know how at the higher levels.
-
NW competitiveness is passive aggressive behavior.
-
Come on now, @creepycoug we need Blue Blooded, royalty in the sport. Without it there's just anarchy and chaos. It's the guillotine in the Place de la Concorde!
It's not like Alabama, Ohio State, USC and ND didn't earn their spots on Mt Rushmore meritocratically. They've won NTs over many different eras in the sport across decades.
I'm not saying this needs to be absolute monarchy - it could be of a limited, constitutional variety. If Miamuh wins it all this year, we can start negotiations to remove the Papists from Rushmore and add the Convicts. 6 NTs in 42 years would be hard to ignore.
-
I’d settle for being Oregon in terms of popularity, financial support and recruiting. If Lanning was Deboer Oregon wins an NCS last year and looking at back to back this year
-
There's noting more pathetic that overly competitive sports ball parents with JAG fucking kids. Unless your kid has some kinda rare human body type/skill set for said sport, chill the fuck out weirdos.
Am I right @creepycoug or am I right?
-
Hence, why we're so good at internet tuff guy, keyboard warriors!
-
Different kinda competitiveness and attitude.
-
2.5/5 is better than 95% of other schools
As far as I know you've touched more grass than most but this reeks of 4chan. You realize UW dominates every team in the Midwest that isn't a blue blood. You think Purdue has a TUFFER mentality? What are we doing
-
When I was driving down to Corvallis for our Beavlet game in 2023 I was listening to 1080 and they had some Director of Something from Oregon on. And yeah they are run efficiently and try to take as much weight off of the main coaches as possible. It's what Washington should be doing as well. Any program nowadays.
That gives way to success and everything if your coaches are really good and have enough talent stacked. I know this is all WIW shit but so many programs fuck it up because they look at how much they're paying the head coach.
-
UW is more serious than the Cardinals at least
-
Cardinals are a fucking shit show. Gannon is just a symptom. I watched the second half. They had that game in the bag. If DeMercado or whatever keeps the ball for another half yard, they're up 28-6 and it's in the bag. Not that I follow the woke NFL (TITTT) much, but the Titans are a bottom three team and they don't have 25,000 transplants in the stands like the Packers, Bears, Seahawks, Giants etc. It won't change until the Bidwells sell the team. It's a minor miracle they almost beat the Stealers (lol) in the SB years ago.
Edit: Thanks for quoting Vanilla 🙄
-
You are passionate about something this I can tell. Very confused what the titans have to do with the first and last part though
-
To my great white North Husky fan @Canadawg:
Re the 2.5/5 being better than 95% of the other schools, who cares about 90% of those other schools?
Does it matter if UW is doing better on hires than the WSUs, Ball States and Syracuses of the world? Not at all. UW’s comps should be the schools in the top 30 all time, From tOSU down to say an Auburn school (Auburn might be more of a top 20ish school but I think you get the point).
The competitive culture I mentioned was referring to tOSU specifically. The schools like Purdue and even Kentucky (yes, an SEC school but also part of the crossover zone between Midwest and southern states) that are meh historically don’t care as much. It’s why the Gilby/Willingham/Sark years hurt UW so bad, we? stopped having high standards and started making excuses for why we? sucked.
-
That makes sense. I just think it's worth considering for every Ohio State and Georgia there are a Nebraska and USC who haven't hit on a HC in a long time.
The crossover of history and recent success puts UW in a tight venn diagram grouping
-
UW looks even better when you look at just the 4 team playoffs.
-
LOL at OU and Texas.
-
At least they're around. Nebraska and SC havent been a top 4 (or 12) team once in over a decade which is insane to think about.
Nebraska moreso is on a Minnesota trajectory which I think is too bad since they're the most likeable blue blood
-
It is hard to imagine Nebraska ever being a power again. There is no reason they can’t hire a good coach, recruit develop, and pay for quality in the portal, but that’s a truly dead brand.
-
Definitely not passionate about the Cardinals
They're a joke. If the Seahawks were still in the AFC West (like they should be) I'd probably be kind of a fan, but it starts at the top. Loser organizations like the Jets, Lions, Mariners, and Raiders are that way for a reason.
-
They've been to 10 Rose Bowls, which isn't nothing, but their record there is not great.
No claimed natties but the Helms people gave them one in 1942.
Wisconsin's Rose Bowl Appearances & Results
- 1953: Lost to USC, 0-7
- 1960: Lost to Washington, 8-44
- 1963: Lost to USC, 37-42
- 1994: Defeated UCLA, 21-16
- 1999: Defeated UCLA, 38-31
- 2000: Defeated Stanford, 17-9
- 2011: Lost to TCU, 19-21
- 2012: Lost to Oregon, 38-45
- 2013: Lost to Stanford, 20-14
- 2020: Lost to Oregon, 28-27
Michigan is 9-12 in case you're wondering. Bo Schmembuckler or whatever had a particular allergy to California sunshine with a 2-8 record in the Grandaddy of the All.
-
Bo coached under the no repeat rule
Going to the Rose Bowl lost its luster when the Pac 10 and Big 10 joined the BCS
Oregon won the league and played in the Fiesta when Miami and Nebraska played the championship
Wisconsin had the last 3 legit ones in that late run where Ty won multiple Rose Bowls at Stanford
I could look it up but I don't think Wisconsin won the league in the later ones. I think it was a consolation for losing the B1G title game
-
They are basically Iowa (2-4 all time in Rose Bowl) with the stats padded by Big Ten Runner Up Rose Bowls.
-
Oregon won the league 3 of 4 years under Chip, only 2 RBs because of Natty vs Auburn in 2010/11.
Oregon playing Colorado in the 2001/02 Fiesta was the best outcome despite Bellotti calling the BCS a cancer for leaving us out. Colorado barely missed the natty game despite 2 losses and were heavily favored. That was one of the best games Nick Aliotti ever called; completely stymied the multi-faceted Buff run game and had us up 38-9 before a late Buff TD.
Oregon wouldn't have fared well against Miami. That was team was a juggernaut. The fact that Nebraska played in it after losing 62-28 to Colorado in the Big12 title game must be some type of record.
-
Right. Not elite but not nothing. They've had some good fucking teams and have pumped players into the league. Let's not pretend otherwise. This isn't historical Indiana, Minnesota, or even Iowa. They've had a better modern era run than the Hawkeyes. Iowa has been to exactly one Rose Bowl since Chuck Long. That's a long drought, BCS or no BCS.
-
Had Ryan Day not won the NC last year they would have fired him b/c he lost to Michigan again.
Their version of Montlake Futures threw 20 plus million dollars last year to go get Will Howard and #1 all world safety prospect that transferred from Bama
They had 20k people in Husky Stadium 2 weeks ago
We had 35k for Rutgers last night. They get that in their spring game if the sit their #1 O and D
They recruit Nationally, we are focusing on Washington, Arizona and California
-
Just b/c I say I can date Sydney Sweeny because I'm a nice guy who makes 6 figures doesn't mean it's realistic.
-
Here's the number 1-101 reasons why not at Washington until we prove otherwise
