Hardcore Husky Podcast: Release the Esteen Files!

Will listen on our flight to Mexico City at noon so I don’t have to talk with my wife. Woof

Yes…any team with a rushing attack will beat the Huskies this year.
Dougherty's offense looks good though. I'd like to see a lot more outlet shovel passes instituted from Demond when he gets blitzed. Those could force teams to back off of blitzing.
I'd give the OL a 4.5/10 last year. The OL looks maybe 5.5/10 this year.
The DL and the LBs are going to lose games by themselves if they aren't fixed.
Special teams speed and tackling is very poor.
I'd say tackling by the LBs and Ss and the special teams needs the most improvement before B1G play begins. -

coverage units somehow were worse. At least we can return a kickoff though. I have no clue why we have Boston returning punts. Great wr but his skillset does not scream punt returner.
Run blocking looked better but the opponent was meh. The blitz pickup was reminiscent of the Petersen days. Demond holds the ball way too long.
Our defensive line looked maybe even worse than last year. -
Mexico City? T's & P's
Should have gone to Manchester instead.

I always look forward to the post-game episodes, but audio issues were a little rough on this one. I’ll give it a shot next weekend.
-
We have UCLA late which means as we saw they're going to start out all time bad like nice that will be a win but then 2-3 weeks before they play UW they'll start to slowly put it together. If we have UCLA early it's always the opposite - they come out on fire, beat us and then implode midseason.
-
LOL at the intro.
-
The only reason I regret not being able to pod is to point out I called the fake FG as soon as 12 was trotting out there. I laffed so hard with WooleyDoog that Norvell thought they’d outsmarted everyone but couldn’t even fool some hungover and tired schlubby youth football coach
-
this was a good pod for the esteen files name and the pointing out of the retard rope a dope strategy that we use to beat our opponents.
-
This was true and I even tried to argue with him saying it was just the backup QB. If I was a CSU fan I'd have lost my shit. UW couldn't stop them in 3rd and 4th and long to save their lives and you run that shit out there?
-
Sorry about that. Doogles mentioned something before we started recording but the audio was crystal clear on my end so I didn't give it much thought. That's on me of course.
-
Cool fucking city!

I'm personally glad to hear you guys reporting that we aren't mathematically eliminated from a 12 team playoff after a 3 score win in the first game
Malarkey aside I do think UW is built to be the type of team many on here have dreaded playing as an opponent. In this game we realistically had a sketchy 1st half of the 1st game of the season but ultimately had a slippery mobile QB that could hit guys on the run. A running game that Fisch to his credit absolutely leaned into and didn't get cute with. Also defensively they allowed 7 points in the second half and 110ish yards. I see the ability to coach and adjust in that situation which is expected to be necessary and impressive to do in game 1 with no tape on this transfer heavy team.
If they can't get off the field in 3rd and 4th downs this year I will be only focused on that though

Accentuate the positive is what I always say
-
The Hatchett snap miscommunication to defensive bust was a 14 point swing right before the half.
But yeah, get off the field on 3rd and 4th and long. Nothing else matters and it's a UW program staple at this point.
-
Tough to do that without a pass rush.
