I feel like the times we have touted having yuuuuuge OLs they haven't been able to move and we have sucked. The early-2000s version my dad referred to as the Circus Elephants. Not saying it won't work, but certainly feels like a lazy metric.
I get it. You want guys who are big but also are athletes and play other sports like basketball. From what I remember though Adams and McGary were guys who came in like 270ish types and added 30 pounds. Seems now like we're going after guys who come in 340 and will want to drop. I trust the staff. Jimmy was just a GOAT level bozo who seemed to just think a bigger weight on the roster automatically meant better.
After going after the portal and going hard to development our high school class over the last 2 off-seasons, to the point where the staff is like "No, we feel good about this room we are not going after any more guys so as to possibly slow the development of our core" someone here actually said with a straight face that we would be lucky to have an OL that is average and/or an improvement over last year's 😆
It goes without saying. I know that there's some former Sark guys but this isn't Sark's staff. Sark has a Sumlin like flameout at Arizona (cook it), not be the 2nd-3rd best team in a loaded conference year and then go win 10 games and beat Oklahoma. Holy fuckall.
I remember the chatter in summer 2008 being that the OL would be big and a strength of the team, especially with Juan Garcia!! back early from injury. Since then, I've assumed talk of UW having a big OL = fat and useless
Yes, the 2008 Oregon debut gave birth to "They look like Ohio State out there Groz" and Race Bannon's comparison of the OL to having "beer bellies and pipe cleaner arms"
Finau, the Hatchett's, and the transfer OL are likely 4 out of 5 starters and guys like Azzopardi are going to be rotational at best this year, and if him or McCree (who people think is actually pretty good) do somehow get the 5th starting spot then they most likely properly earned it and we weren't just desperately trying to get enough bodies in the room. This doesn't include some of the other high school kids they got or a guy like Henning coming in and taking the spot or adding depth. Not sure how people feel about Faasolo but he's a redshirt sophomore this year and his problem was just needing another offseason.
And then for the first time seemingly ever our QB is going to scare teams off of a straight pass rush.
There is no reason not to doog about the jump that we're going to take on offense and at that position this year.
DL is a more legitimate concern. Our main guy(s) from the DeBoer era are either constantly hurt or we really really need them to confirm that they've taken the jump (Elinneus Davis). Jayvon Parker tearing his ACL or Achilles or whatever he hurt at Rutgers was a lowkey terrible thing to happen last season. So now we're really relying on shit going right for us both with injury recovery and our ability to coach guys up quickly from the portal.
Precisely. In general, I think it's better and healthier for the guys to come in slightly underweight with a great frame than to come in at 340 pounds. I've not met many 340 high schoolers that had a good perspective and willingness to do the work required to get into playing shape.

They average 340 lbs across the line.
Time to edit 5 Reasons.

Yep. Also, Lake was big on being “big,” and being “a pro.”
Just look for the pencil arms though. Do they have Ryan Tolar arms??
If they move like pre-injury Trey Adams and also Kaleb McGary, then I'm good with it.
The '85 and '86 Huskies had highly-touted huge offensive lines… but they ended up being too slow

The guys that are touted at 340 are also 6’5- 6’8. If we had a bunch of 6’ 340lb sumo’s I’d be rather concerned

I truss the staff. Seems like we're seeing more Fautanu 6'4 types at tackle, but I have a hard spot for the 6'7-8 guys.
Take it to the Oline bored guys
Seriously trying to pack my patience here

I hope they’re ready to rumble.

Size queens… All of you.
Generally don't count on freshmen O line with some exceptions but you do want to stack the roster
I have no idea if the portal and last two recruiting classes will win this year. Hope so
Also hope we don't develop the freshmen for another program to steal
Football today

Didn’t little Jimmy Cornell get kicked out of a practice right before that?

Well only Taulealea is actually 340 lbs (350 lbs). He'll probably RS if he can't get tone up.
The other guys who came in early are all under 340 (Schaefer at 325, Mills at 320, and Flores at 295).
