So week 1 of writing drinks consumed down was complete on Saturday. Total as written was 15.5 but "serving" is nebulous unless prepackaged so might have been 16-17.
When you know you're going to write it down you are more likely to skip the last drink of the evening. It felt like so little….. JFC. Could have easily hit 25. What do they want from us? These fucking doctors better invent some alcohol free fun activities in a hurry.
I'll keep plugging away at writing down and trying to reduce but this week is not off to a good start with a bunch of beers for the Commanders gayme.
Had a vodka/club soda on Friday and a beer with pizza on Saturday. So not quite dry January but close.
That’s it for January. Had already cut back from a nightly tumbler of vodka/soda to once per week during 2024. Immediately dropped about 15 pounds
Lost a family member in late 2023 to liver cancer so that factored in - but he was knocking back 6 to 8 shots per day to cope with business pressures. Have never been in that realm since college binge drinking days but easy to see how slippery the slope can be.
Jesus turned water into wine so fuck the surgeon general. Everything in moderation.
Sat - 5 (kids at grandparents and went on date night so a cocktail, two beers, and a whiskey for desert plus one more whiskey at home spinning records)
Sun - 3 (One beer post skiing, and 2 watching #MyRedskins)
10 or fewer is the goal, but you can see how easy it is to exceed this number and while not being a total drunkard.
We're exposed to hundreds or thousands of "toxins" on a daily basis. The dose matters and that's my beef with the surgeon general and the lack of nuance.
Unfortunately we all know that big clear messages work on the masses and nuance does not. So the SG has to shout from those rooftops to target the lowest common denominator.
Comments
I interpreted that statement as commentary on habitually drinking every day, even if it's just one a day.
Which is beyond FS.
Look, I think it's possible to consume more alcohol than is ideal for optimal health and performance while at the same time not being an alcoholic.
I'm no expert, by isn't that something a functioning alcoholic would say?
Just messing with you, and, for the record, I generally agree with what you're saying.
Hey, boss, I'll be the first to admit I have a strong craving (addiction) to drink beer and whiskey. I love that shit.
By my (subjective) definition, alcoholism = when you lose control and the substance abuse starts damaging your life in significant ways.
I severely enjoy Pfriem Pilsners. Or as I like to call them, "the white can with a bear on it." That helps my wife know what to buy at the Winco.
I'm about 3-4 beers a week. How can you afford much more? I must be a pour.
I love color coded beer cans.
White Pfriem = Pils
Gold Pfriem = Lager
Black Prfiem = get you buzzed IPA
Light Blue Can = nice pale ale you can session
I haven't had the gold can yet. They just got at Winco in CDA. Is it good?
Excellent!

My weekend report:
Friday - 3 beers (2 cans, but one was a 20 oz Dogfish Head 9% double imperial IPA….so probably counts for 2)
Saturday - 0
Sunday - 2 pints while watching NFL at Capone's.
Pretty light week.
I had one bourbon with my neighbor on Saturday. That was the extent of my drinking for the week
