I don't have a problem with Uncle Phil playing the game by the rules as they currently exist. If he wants to buy a Natty then so be it.
The only asterisk I'd put on the impending Oregon Natty, is that the 2010 near Natty would have been more impressive- i.e., doing w/o TRADITION, LOCATION and MONEY, but with a bunch of 3 stars and a revolutionary, disruptor type head coach.

If Oregon ends going 16 and 0, beating OSU twice, Penn State, Texas and whoever else they meet in the final that will be one of the more impressive NC's ever. A feat that the hairlip never even came close to obtaining.

I'm not bitter, I loved Chip but he had his faults. He lost a very winnable game. No way in hell does Dan stand pat with a sketchy FG kicker going into that 2012 season. But Chip did and it cost us another NC.

Chip wasn't infallible. But his mad-genius level coaching enabled Oregon's 2009- 14 run w/o blue blood type MONEY, TRADITION and LOCATION.
I don't think a guy of Dan's abilities could have elevated Oregon in the same way post Mike B.
While at the same time what Chip did was kind of a one time moment in history and the game evolved. Eventually the @oregonblitzkrieg ran out of gas at the gates of Moscow.

DeBoer would have qualified in 2023 but he came up short.

Phil was already providing plenty of financial support by the time Chip arrived. Dan just did something Chip was never able to do, and he is recruiting at a level that Chip never did. Chip never built the kind of talent on the O and D-lines that Dan has built.

I don’t care if Oregon “buys” a natty. You’ve all been saying that for about 20 years anyway including when he was here. Am I supposed to not want them to win and pray another good and right SEC team wins it?UW has more money and circumstance than Oregon State. College football is capitalism. There’s no right way to win it. It’s not fair USC is in the only major city out west with recruits. It’s not fair Phil Knight invented Nike at Oregon. Nothing has ever been sacred, righteous or fair in college football. That’s all religious type malarkey. It’s not magic. It’s not bestowed by god. It’s circumstance and luck and all of that changes over time.
If Oregon wins I’m getting the T-shirt, the SI cover and a hat. Then everyone just does it all over again the next year.
