Agreed, a P4 championship should only guarantee a playoff bid, not a top 4 seed.
Equally nonsensical is the existence of conference championship games given that teams don't want to play in it.
I'm really hoping the SEC champ loser gets a 3rd loss and misses the playoffs while three or four 2-loss SEC teams that didn't make the championship get in. Would end lead to immediate rule changes for playoff selection if not the end of conference championship games.
