Call me crazy but I would rather take less and play for Brian Kelly who at least has a history of running a pro offense over Sherrone Moore who I have no idea what they are trying to do on offense.
The players can be compensated and I'm good with it. The Wild West and mysterious nature of these payments and figures and the complete lack of balance of who can and can't pay certain amounts is awful for the sport. We're on a freight train heading to an awful high school model where there's some all star teams and that's really it. Then we have a media that will still have their pom poms and knee pads out for it.
Unionizing is the way out. Until the 90% of players that don’t make shit vote on a pay scale and NIL transparency then the rich will win consistently and everyone else will have to build up for a 1, maybe 2 year window to compete, then rebuild again. Why the players and teams that are underfunded aren’t shouting from the rooftops for rules that can’t be litigated in court is beyond me. Some rich friend of Jerry Jones isn’t paying a free agent player straight cash under the table to sign with the Cowboys. That is against the union contract that all the players signed and if a windfall like that transpired the NFL would sniff it out and dole out a stiff punishment fir all parties involved.
i think some programs will get spending fatigue. Oregon probably isn't one of them, but I have my doubts that the ole miss and Missouri's of the world are going to shoot their shot every year.
Missouri shot their shot because they had an All American WR and an upperclassmen QB they thought would take a step forward. They are in a position Teq mentioned. Build it up and if guys develop then you spend to raise your talent level while your pieces are still in school.
It will be super interesting to see if programs like Missouri possibly get out of the market of grossly overspending for players when they do it and they still can't compete with the big boys. The same programs that skyrocket the market won't stop though. If you're an individual booster is it fun enough to spend a bunch of money to barely make the playoff or go to the Outback Bowl? UW might be in the same boat.
If Demond proves to be “that guy” next year I could see UW going deep into the pockets in 2026 like they did in 2023. There’s no way the 2024 Huskies are in the same ballpark as 2023 in terms of NIL. They paid all the existing stars on the roster to come back and bought Dillon Johnson (proven SEC RB) and Jabbar Mohammed (2nd Team All B12 CB).

Two things
Whatever the system some teams will exploit it and win
Poor old Worshington will complain about the rules and get exploited
And people like us will get lectured that WE? just can never be one of the top programs and have to deal with it.

This last run to the natty was spechul. The dawg skwad has returned to normal mediocrity. Survey says!, I picked up some extra free time.
