just got back from Northwestern actually. No not a game. Lol.
Evanston is nice if not a little boring. NW’estern campus is nice but not anything special IMO.
I love the city of Chicago though. Damn there is a lot there. But fuck, the winters. I’ve been as cold as I’ve ever been in my movie in January in that town.
and that fucking lake gets fucking nasty as fuck when it wants to. Driving on lakeshore rd the other day … decent day but the wind started and the wave action was breaching the walls rather violently.
Chicago would be livable for me but those winters are too much.
My Grandpa was a Northwestern grad and Chicago native. In his final years he had Alzheimers. He would take off out the front door and down the sidewalk. Grandma would ask me to track him down. I'd catch him and ask where he was going. He'd either say he needed to get to Wrigley to see the Cubs, or just he needed to get back to Chicago.
I lived in the Chicago burbs for about 18 months. One full winter and I was done. I’ve done winters in some cold fucking places; near the DMZ in South Korea; Colorado Springs; Hawaii, etc.
At this stage in my life, I want nothing to do with the cold.
Cold winter in Hawaii? And you lived to tell about it? Awesome.
(Okay, I initially moved to Waimea (Kamuela) on the Big Isle from Seattle (after graduation) and at 2,500 ft elevation the toilet seats were actually cold, during the winter, in the early hours of the morning. No indoor heating, in Hawaii? Makes Dwag sense. But, JFC take a dump before you go to bed. Problem solved. Plus we used to visit Mauna Kea summit on January 1 every year and take a pickup load of snow to the sunny beaches a couple of hours later.) It's not hard, my fren. . . . I still don't own a fucking jacket.
(yes, I typed this thinking it was bait….but still………………….)

Doomed
Speaking of waterfront stadiums, the roof actually blew off of the Tropicana Field [devil ray's baseball] in the latest storm…
I am not sure that hearing the waves in the nearby lake is a very good selling point, but still………………………..

That said, Chicago is a fun city to visit.

Good catch.

Too soon?
Waimea is bizarre because it's like being in Seattle on a tropical island. Shitty weather 75% of the time.
yah, aol Canada is my secret weapon resource for information… shhh dont tell anyone
I was thinking of the cold places I’ve lived and while I technically didn’t live in Hawaii, I thought it was fun to mention amongst those places.
It was snuck in there like Ossai in the speed section of 5 reasons.
