Thankfully US News Rankings are garbage. Faculty salary is a factor? Seriously?
I'll wait for Creep's analysis.
You can tell we suck again when academic ranking posts make their way to the board.
Need more police reports and academic scandals to make me comfortable with the direction of the program.
I don't think we're falling into deep, prolonged period of suck. This is just a new era of college football where one minute you're in the CFP and then a few months later you lose half your roster.
Us news has always hated uw. You new?
Yes, I know. It just get a chuckle over some of the schools they put in front of us.
Ranked below THE Ohio State? Wankings are twash.
We? Respect UW as the third most prestigious academics program to join the Big from the Pac!
Cal too high
I wanted to show that they've been passed by UCLA.
Creepy is on the road and just now downloading the 2025 rankings. We? can say that the US News ranking is trash, but it's the one to which people pay the most attention. Whether or not any of us likes the idea of "brand", it exists and US News has the most powerful brand, mostly because they were first.
But like all rankings, US News has to tweak their shit every year to mix things up enough to keep people on the edge of their seats waiting with bated breath for the new release. Otherwise, there is so little organic change that schools can or do make from year to year that would ever change the pecking order, and that would be boring.
Last year, US News changed their metrics bigly to benefit public universities because people were bitching that the small to medium sized rich private college model is not the only model for higher ed. So, they responded and public flagships other than the usual suspects (UVa, Cal, UCLA, Michigan) shot up to heights they'd never before seen. UW was one of them.
I haven't seen the change to the criteria this year, but I heard from a friend that they added some heft to the portion of the algo that credits schools with taking in more disadvantaged students and getting them graduated. So, for example, UC Merced, historically the least favored UC school, takes in a ton of Pell grant kids and has a decent graduation rate. This year, they shot up in the rankings. Maybe UW is relatively weaker on that measure as compared to schools that got ranked higher. You can complain about it, but when you really start thinking about this in the big picture (which is a huge waste of tim), you do start to see that there are many valid ways to measure the effectiveness of a school.
For example, it is reasonable to ask whether Harvard and its many many billions is really doing anything that great given who they enroll. Harvard has some huge % of kids whose family hired a private college consultant, which means they have money. They also enroll crazy stats kids. So, you have kids from super advantaged backgrounds, many with massive connections and family money, and kids who are so brilliant that they almost don't need to go to college. All of these people arguably were going to be successful with or without Harvard. You can say the same about Stanford, Amherst, Yale, Brown, etc. What are they really doing? In some ways, yeah, maybe UC Merced is getting more important shit done.
Anyway, all to be taken with a grain of salt, but, I mean, look, we are talking about it on a football message board.
Us news has always hated uw. You new?
Nah, they really don't hate anyone. They just have their algo that they fuck with here and there and it spits out variations of the list.
There's no meeting at the US News quant headquarters at which people can be heard saying, "hey, UW is still too high. tweak this and that so they'll be lower on the list." I mean, it's a fun thought, but it's entirely unlikely.
Sporting News was my trusted source for academic rankings but they unfortunately shut down.
Holy wall off text, Batman
@Tequilla, true ?
.
it's a load of bullshit! Central is ranked behind schools that don't even have fucking football teams, such as Western.
This answered my earlier question that Northwestern is the new Stanford
Nice $52 million endowment you got there, pal.
the rest must have been spent on stadium upgrades
RIP. I subscribed to TSN back in the 90s and early 2000s. It normally arrive on Thursday and I’d very upset if I had to wait until Friday for it.
Not even to October yet and the academis threads are bustin out.
What are you talking about? Washington is 21st.
