UCLA coaching staff had devised a good game plan with the short slants to overcome the UW pressure defense. We? had no answer for it. The game got off to a bad start when UW blitzed Tommie Smith on a run play and the Bruin RB ran it 75+ yards down the middle of the field for a TD.
Really a numb feeling after the game, but we knew the team would take it out on the Palouse Pussies the following week. -
I was at that game. Phil Donahue definitely outcoached DJ that day.
