It's not unreasonable for legal things that can cause death to have some basic requirements. It's a societal good. Imagine roadways without licenses, vehicle registrations, and insurance requirements. If you genuinely care about providing society with a better means to curb gun violence, particularly kids getting massacred at schools, you should have no problem registering your gun and licensing your capability to operate one. I can't figure out why any rational brain would disagree with that. This is not infringement on 2nd amendment rights, it would be common sense legislation. For any law abiding citizen who cares about gun violence, that is. Nobody is taking your guns. Just sack up and get a license and gun registration. It'll take a half hour out of your day every few years. Small price to pay for your right to shoot shit with death bullets. It ain't crazy. Do you have a warrant or something?
Hear about lots of societal good things and common sense laws, they generally mean more government. No one is going to take my guns, but the government just wants to know exactly where they are and who has them.
Why can you still not answer what the penalty should be for failing to register? Does that not matter? Does the state already know I have one or something, where would they procure such a list?
And no I do not have a warrant, I've just been naughty by exercising my free speech right. Do I need a license for that too?
If you don't care about the constitution there are a lot easier ways to stop crime. Pre crime convictions. Hold without bail. Beat the fuck out of suspects. Sweeps of high crime areas. Stop and frisk. Gizmo
But you guys want to go after law abiding citizens while crying over the rights of criminals
Why would anyone trust you? Ban violent movies and porn. Shut down the internet. Stop giving boys drugs when they act like boys
You fucks have spent 30 years calling anyone who wants to get tough on crime racist. People want guns thanks to leftist policies
When Vinny the Venezuelan comes to collect the rent you better have a gun
But we do have a constitution thank Allah
Shall not infringe motherfucker
And I've never owned a gun. Haven't fired one since Gettysburg
I just drove the last week on an expired license. Fines would have been $500-$1000 if I was caught. For some reason I thought I had to go to the DMV, hell on Earth, and I slacked, but then I realized I could renew it online. We're all set now.
More strawmen to avoid the point, naturally. If one Tug member admits that guns, especially the assault weapon/mod extremes, are part of the problem, and that some real solutions to reduce risk are needed, I'll rest easy. It's not the entire problem, obviously, but it's a part of it. Trump himself banned bump stocks. What a monster.
All I see is gangs, migrants, mandatory buyback shrieks, transgenders, and an unwillingness to take guns seriously and responsibly.
You're the one with the common sense plan. No specifics, but trust us it's common sense. I'm sure the penalties are pretty immaterial.
Still super unclear how having my name on a list and a paid-up designation status next to it saves a single life. Government's just love lists I guess.
Your ideas are mostly post-facto and infringe on many of the individual freedoms you hold so dear. Sweeps, stop and frisk, pre crime convictions? I've never heard of that one, but wow. You can't be serious. The Constitution for some, but not others, sounds like.
We already have the largest prison population by far. You want more draconian shit? That's not helping prevent gun violence and mass shootings whatsoever. That's the topic here, not gang violence. These are separate subjects. Those problems need to be tackled as well. I'm skeptical mass incarceration is the answer. We've tried that.
Back to the point, I like to handle problems before they happen. Keeping guns out of the hands of scum and in the hands of responsible citizens, as well as mental health investment and law enforcement reforms, are all part of the solution. Otherwise we're just spinning our wheels.
You can't seem to grasp that I don't have the answers. I'll never pretend that I have the answers to anything. That's just how I am. But I do understand when solutions are needed, and I will shit on anyone who waves the need for solutions off. My ideas are just fun and games in support of overarching needs that the Tug is too pussy to accept as reality.
Nope. I just want my government to be a force for good for everyone in the most sensible way possible. And the effort is enough. Obviously its not that simple and it doesn't work out that way sometimes, but America overall should be a force for good, not despair, hatred, corruption, and evil. Change is very slow. We have to work at it. Call me an idealist, idgaf.
Those dead kids and all the other gun death victims are not exercising their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness right now. But muh 2nd Amendment!
Me paying to register my gun would have no impact on saving any lives. Floor is yours to show how it could. Bearswiin is definetly a gun grabber, so while you may have pure motives he definetly just wants government to exercise raw power. Get control over your fellow leftists then we can talk.
Who said you would have to pay? I'd say it should be free. I could even see the government paying gun owners to get licensed and their previously owned guns registered.
New gun purchases registered automatically. License required to buy.

Don't deflect.

Why does my opinion about penalties matter?

Reread your post, Race. Forget my first two paragraphs. Misread.
Laughed hard at the Gettysburg comment.

You must work for the government.

Compromise for the greater good is needed.

Wow that's really deep man. Tell us more. You're so smart.
Who said you would have to pay? I'd say it should be free. I could even see the government paying gun owners to get licensed and their previously owned guns registered.

Big ideas here.
