Someone should write the coaching timeline that happens in the alternate universe that James sticks around due to UW nutting up and telling the PAC and NCAA to fuck off.
James probably only had another 5-7 years left, at most. Maybe Derek knows otherwise since he actually has spoken with him and his wife multiple times. Does that just bridge the gap directly to Slick being hired, and we skip the Lambo years and Rick inherits a Ferrari rather than a Fiero?
It's not as bad as USC, but it certainly sucks now that the struggle is UW trying to compete with bags and getting punished for the miniscule shit that was this back in the day.
I once made a comment to him about how many more Rose Bowls there could have been, and he said for health reasons he would have just coached another 2-3 years.

Wam material?
A 'what might have been,' in husky lore. If I recall the two year bowl ban was the straw that broke the camels back for James?

I think James would have insisted on one of his coaches to take over. It probably would have been Lambo or Pinkel regardless.

Since both coaches have since passed away, I have a couple of stories I'll tell soon in this vein
