I don't feel bad about recruiting now, whereas two months ago I was starting to get very concerned. The guy's only been on the job 6 months so it seems like things are going okay, maybe better than expected at this point.
I don't waste much time on this malarkey, but am pleasantly surprised by how well it appears he is doing on the recruiting front. However, the proof is in the pudding as they say. Wins are what matters. How well the team comes together, how well the talent is developed and coached, and how well both the players and coaching staff perform game day. That's what matters. Beat Michigan. Beat Ohio State. Beat Penn State. Win the B1G. Then I'll be impressed.
I don't think it gets close to what I can remember being the best class and probably the best of relatively modern TBS rankings - 2001. For example they signed the number #1 & 2 WRs nationally and I think the highest-rated offensive lineman. That class ended up being a joke outside of Reggie though I think and Neuheisel got accused of recruiting a lot of guys people weren't huge on just because of star ratings.
I don't think this class also gets close to Petersen's best classes, but it will be good for where the program is right now and the state of TBS bag power.
This is accurate. I think the expanded playoff especially is gonna create some fun runs with teams like last year's UW. I think something happened in the past 20 years or so though that will make it hard for teams outside of maybe half a dozen programs to actually win the full natty because of how much better and deeper they are in the trenches. I don't know how or why exactly it happens, but it seems to be the case.
I have a hard time getting too excited over recruiting — let alone the fucking rankings. Most of these guys will never see the field at UW, either because they’ll portal out or they’ll suck.
I’m not against recruiting high school players and I know it’s better to have good ones than bad ones, so don’t twist. But I still think the portal will be a more important factor in whether UW is a title contender in the future.
I would put development as over all the rest. At least in the spring portal UW got shoved in a locker by programs like Memphis and Missouri and the only guys they brought in who appeared to be coveted were when DeBoer was still coaching, the team was in the CFP, and then I assume most were locked in at that point and could wiggle out.
I haven't seen any sign that the portal can consistently make up for any let up in HS recruiting at UW. We got lucky once. Penix isn't coming around again for a while. The backbone of that team came from top 20 recruiting classes, and it was rare, good fortune that those two things intersected the way they did.
UW hasn't been a major player in the portal yet. Not for the guys everyone wants.
This, yeah. Here's my realistic best case for a strong and consistent UW.
High school recruiting classes consistently ranked 11-20 which look like Petersen classes, which means there's a few McDuffie, Odunzes, Rosengartens who are legit Top 100 guys you had to go to the mat with big time schools to get.
Would really benefit from instate talent being strong with some stars who don't immediately dismiss UW and depth
Selective portal recruiting. They're going to get outbid for the guys everyone wants by the usual suspects every time so rely on finding guys who might choose UW over them for system fit, connections to coaches, etc.
Homecoming portal recruiting. Like Jayden Wayne, establish UW as a place highly rated guys from the state who left are welcomed back to.
UW can get good, even great, players from the portal through good scouting and a little luck. You just can't expect them to get enough of those guys to patch big roster holes every year.
lol no. The difference between 10 and 20 is about the same as 20 and 40. "anything can happen" = 8 other playoff teams's's planes crash into each other.

Thanks Taft!
Like we say, no.

Coach uses poorly thought out hyperbole to a room full of autistic recruitnics
HE PROMISED THE BEST CLASS EVER!!!!!11111!!!!
Six months in and has a recruiting class equal to Wisconsin. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Next class I think shows where he really stands.
Aspirational goal - "“I want the University of Washington’s class of 2025 to be the best recruiting class Washington’s ever had,” Fisch said during a Feb. 2 appearance on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk."

if you are in the top 20 of recruiting and with the new playoff system anything is possible.

hurtful.
Yup. Recruiting matters, but development and transfers are going to matter more to UW.

Good summary. I agree with all of it.
