I’m just calling it right now. We max out at 7 wins this year, Napier gets fired and Fisch jumps to Florida, bringing superstar Demond Williams with him.
People seem to think Fisch would be Florida's main target. Why? As it stands he would be far down the pecking order, especially if he wins 7 games. Feinbaum said Kiffin would likely be their top target if Napier gets canned after this year fwiw.
I think the honest calculus since Fisch was hired has been the next two seasons - no matter who we land in portal in - a winning season should be the goal. The foundation of this team is going to be high school recruits and it’s going to take time … yes need mor tim.
Michael Penix isn’t a human that just magically filters through the portal to us every two years.
Also … Fisch isn’t going anywhere unless he can leverage a playoff run …
Maybe we win 9 or 10 with a bowl game in ‘24 or ‘25 .. it’s possible … but reality is more like 7 or 8.
Yes, I hate that too. Yes, we need to spend more money … but it’s pretty clear we don’t have enough to land the top end guys right now … nobody’s taking a discount for us.
I don't think the starters are in bad shape minus the offensive line. That is a mess. The hope was they could pluck 2-3 starters and have a decent season. 8-10 wins. If it doesn't happen then 6-8 would be realistic.
Bigger issue is gonna be hanging on to guys year over year even if we recruited them out of high school. Need bigger bags for sure.
I think that the kids they get from HS will be more likely to take a discount if they’re playing and the team is winning. I’m pretty sure a bunch of the second tier players along the lines didn’t get a ton of money last year. Kalepo and Beulow left to finally get a bag. The open market is crazy. Home grown is the best path forward at UW.
Agreed. Depending on the portal is not wise. It can work for some. Oregon has unlimited budget and the majority of their starters are from other schools. That would never work at uw unless we find a billionaire booster.
Dropping the biggest bag to overrated bidding war transfers….I mean Oregon and some schools do it to an extent but I don't think they rely on it as much as people think. Except for quarterback/rb which might be the only positions worth filling up the coffee cup with something better than just Pike Roast.
The schools that truly do like xfer portal/bidding wars like A&M and Miami are absolute shit.
The majority of oregons projected starters are transfers. They do it and do it well thus far. At some point you would think high school kids will catch on and sign elsewhere but that hasn't happened yet.
Fisch might want to go to Florida, I don’t know, although he isn’t from Florida, hasn’t lived there for 10 years, and originally went there not for the university or location but for the ol HBC.
But why would Florida want him more than anyone else? He is not a “Florida Man.” Didn’t play there, didn’t coach there outside of two GA years 25 years ago. Also hasn’t coached anywhere else in the SEC in 25 years. They have no idea who he is.
It’s like uw fans suddenly discovered coaches have Alma maters when they hired Fisch. Who gives a fuck.
The Florida thing is 100% a Jon Wilner/Pac 2/Quook wet dream. It doesn't come from any place of realism, just straight gaped out needle-ridden quook asshole.
And Florida is still all about blaming the previous coach's recruiting for the last 2 bad seasons.
I've always thought the portal was overblown but the fact is UW was left so bare by graduating, Jimmy not recruiting for two cycles, and portals out they had no choice, especially at OL. The other units I can live with what they got but OL is scary.
I would have thought with all the guys getting drafted this weekend gone it would have freed up a ton of NIL money to do more in the portal but maybe I was wrong.
it’s probably all the rape and bike assaults that’s scaring off the top talents.
All honesty, I’m starting to wonder if there’s anything to this cost of living discussion that’s been mentioned a couple times.
Sounds like a booster needs to buy a condo complex and then put the top NIL/portal transfers in there as part of the deal. I’m sure this is being done somewhere already.

The only good thing is I don't think Fisch is a guy school want unless he wins big. Could be wrong.

Why would they hire Fisch when they could bring back Urban?
Totally agree. Why would 7 Win Fisch get Gator Nation excited? He would need to go 10-3 with a rousing Holiday Bowl win or something akin.
I portal bags must suck. The catch about to tell a few of you to eat crow.
well .. to be honest …

They do sign elsewhere, get developed, move on and get paid by Oregon to finish off their career.

Btw
Marcus Bryant to Missouri
fun times …
we are getting used for dollar quotes to determine market floor …
If we’re getting out-bagged by Missouri for guys we need desperately, our bags suck.
Seven wins?
Might be wishful thinking
