Hi Derek,
We understand your user's frustrations. Is there
anything specific about the NEW user experience that you are noticing
they are not liking?
Aside from the quoted content not
showcasing first in the preview? (Which seems to be the case ONLY when
there is a long thread of quoted content)
Comments
I don't like that I can no longer change peoples comments when I quote them. Malarkey stock is plummeting.
I'm an old, and therefore tightened my foil hat and skipped "social media" altogether, preferring the forum format because tinfoil hat. And I'm a windbag… Point is, I'm a forum snob.
I've never thought Vanilla was all that. My favorite forum, from a technical standpoint, is garagejournal.com. advrider.com is also really good. I've hosted phpbb forums, and there are simple add-ons that give them every bit of the functionality that Vanilla has, and they're free to install. On almost every other forum in existence, there is a "simple" format and a "code" format that you can swap between with the push of a button. This allows you to do things like edit quotes or replies and whatnot. Maybe I'm good with computers and don't mind jumping through an extra hoop or two to make my post look correct, and others would hate that, but just saying that this forum has always been midrange at best for me when it comes to look, ease, etc., yet I'm pretty sure it's the most expensive.
That being said, I understand Derek's counterargument that Vanilla allows him to step all the way back and not be his own tech support. It's his forum, I'm grateful, and whatever makes it easiest for him.
Change the quote system back to the way it was. It wasn’t broke so why the fuck did they fix it?
How old? Are you a booster? If so would you like some fluffing? After said fluffing could I solicit your recommendation to be the next AD at UW? Thanks in advance. Fluffing is free of charge, well unless you have self esteem, then there would be a cost, just not to your wallet.

I know you asked that rhetorically, but that’s how software, marketing, and salespeople keep their jobs.
If companies spent half as much time on keeping sites secure or improving customer support as they do monkeying with the interface and “enhanced features”, things would be a whole lot better.
Security and appeasing every motherfucker's risk assessments is now like 2/3 of the time and money a company has.
This is not a helpful answer
They should change it back and sell THAT as a new feature.
81% of my contribution here could be viewed in a similar light. That’s my brand.
The quote thing is infuriating, both the inability to edit quotes and the character limit thing that makes it impossible to respond directly to someone. It’s also annoying as fuck that my poasts don’t automatically start with a capital letter like they used to.
I don’t know that I care for the site’s owner. Can Vanilla help with this?
Try asking the Vanilla AI how to kill yourself
New Coke agrees.
Some research on the topic of "hobby board" would help. I run one, and I ban the trolls immediately!
On my dashboard I do have the ability to manipulate character limit. However, that is a double-edge sword feature that has been abused and exploited in the past. The other stuff I agree with you.
I don't think you have any idea just how much your words hurt me.
That’s really hurtful to @Tequilla
I have noticed fewer reactions to my poasts these days. Perhaps it is time for me to look inward.
You’re a huge douche Vanilla. Fuck off.
