Seems like a waste of big dick money. Basketball has never been and never will be critical to the the success of the UW athletic department. They should be thankful they aren't playing in Hec Ed for Christ's sake.
I was going to say, seems like a big misallocation of scarce resources. Think about the talent that has rolled through Montlake DESPITE no tradition or anything else that would make any sense choosing Washington over a real basketball school. And still, ….
I don’t know much about how the money allocation thing works for the UW AD but wasn’t this $60 million all paid by donors who explicitly wanted to use it for this purpose? Could UW use the money for football and not piss off those donors and risk not being able to go back to that well?
I get needing to focus on football in a MAJOR way, but UW’s basketball facilities are MWC level right now. Seems that there is plenty of money to go around from donor land, and if Dannen is the AD we hope he is, then football will always be priority No. 1.
if UW really wants to enter the B1G dick measuring contest, it needs respectable basketball facilities to be part of the yardstick.
College basketball is shit as fuck anyhow, so it's hard to care.
And I say this @creepycoug as a guy who drives over treacherous mountain passes in my Sequoia to go watch my son play travel 4th grade basketball against the pours of PDX and the Willamette Valley. Time for some golf lessons.
B1G basketball matters even though I don't see why you need some separate workout place. You need a gym and you have one. Go drive the basketball players somewhere else for hookers and blow.

Thanks Taft!
$60 million that should be going to football.

I'd prefer "equitable-ish"

If that's the case, yes, you spend it how the donors tell you to spend it.

Smartest thing you'll ever do for junior. By far.

Jesus Christ UW. It’s a basketball training facility, it’s an inanimate object. What that had to do with equity is beyond me.
Good. Win in all sports. No loser shit.
I thought it was called REI
I suspect people are referring the its use by the women's hoops team.
I'm sure it will be named after the first Cablasian socialist midget with they/them pronouns who led a UW protest in red square.
