no one takes a knee in that situation. Can’t blame him for an easy handoff that led to a freak aggravation injury.
If he took a knee, everyone would be bitching he left 20 seconds on the clock when he could have potentially ran out the clock like they did against Oregon.
Should we have taken a knee against Oregon rather than get the 1st down and win the game?
I’d prefer we not run immediately into the teeth of the defense… run a sweep to the edge and at least it takes 5+ seconds for the play to happen and the ball get respotted.
Yeah if Deboer/Grubb call slower developing plays (stretch out of pistol) or spread draw away from UTs strength (iDL) that series then they probably burn 8-10 more seconds and you can punt the ball out of bounds on another 6 second hang time and UT gets 1 play from their own 30 at best.
Not breaking new ground that I was good with running plays but didn't love the play calls especially because Texas' front was on a different level than Oregon's. They weren't going to run through it. Also sucked they didn't have a single other back which could be trusted in that situation.
Third down on the drive before was also terrible management. Penix should have just slid down in bounds once a pass wasn't there.
Are we ever going to find out what DJ's actual injury was? It was pretty shocking to see him still hobbled against Texas after getting a month off.

The bigger issue was throwing on 3rd down the drive prior. Run on that play and they take knees to run out the clock on their final possession.
