DVOA measures a team's efficiency by comparing success on every single play to a league average based on situation and opponent.
DVOA is a method of evaluating teams, units, or players. It takes every single play during the NFL season and compares each one to a league-average baseline based on situation. DVOA measures not just yardage, but yardage towards a first down: Five yards on third-and-4 are worth more than five yards on first-and-10 and much more than five yards on third-and-12. Performance is also adjusted for the quality of the opponent. DVOA is a percentage, so a team with a DVOA of 10.0% is 10% better than the average team, and a quarterback with a DVOA of -20.0% is 20% worse than the average quarterback. Because DVOA measures scoring, defenses are better when they are negative. Every year is normalized so the average for that year is 0%.
Any NFL HC Mt. Rushmore without Emperor Chaz Noll is fuctarded. 4-0 in Super Bowls. The team morphed from running game / strong D carrying the load in the 1st 2 SBs to Bradshaw airing it out to win the last 2 SBs. He took a moribund franchise that hadn’t been in the playoffs since 1947 to a dynasty, 4 titles in 6 years. Completely rebuilt the team through the draft by taking players that fit his culture, vision, and system. 1974 1st 4 players drafted all made the HOF. Most coaches are lucky to draft 1 HOF player in their career and he had 4 in one fucking draft! @RaceBannon Steelers made the playoffs 4 times under Noll in the 80s, 82-84 and 89. Made the AFCCG with Mark Malone and 89 playoffs with Bubby Brister, 2 ass QBs.
Joe Gibbs over Noll? GTFOH with that shit. Gibbs got pink socked by the Raiders in SB XVIII 38-9. 4-0 > 3-1. Noll’s schemes and players changed the NFL. Mel Blount was so fucking dominant they made a rule to mitigate his physicality. Mel Blount is the DB Sean Taylor wishes he could have been @creepycoug YKIFR
I’ll end with this. The 76 Steelers team was the best of their dynasty and that season ended in an AFCCG loss to the Raiders. TB got hurt in game 6 that season and they were 1-5. Defense said we got this and gave up 28 points during a 9 game win streak. Read that again…28 fucking points over 9 games. 5 shutouts including 3 in a row, and only surrendered 1 TD over 9 games. That’s a fucking prison rape defense
Now we're crediting coaches for their work as coordinators? I'm sure Bill Parcells agrees with you there...
Belichik did nothing without Brady. 5 - 11 in his first season as NE head coach before Brady took over. Horrible after Brady left while watching Brady win another one without him in Tompa Bay. Got fired in Cleveland.
I know 3 very successful DI hoops coaches that did not play basketball in college, and 2 of them didn't play in HS. Guys that are ambitious move a lot in this business. Learn the craft, as an analyst, QC coach or asst. WR coach, and move on and up. A door was opened, and Fisch ran through it.
A head coach is the CEO, the face and voice of the program. He knows his shit, and he hires good assistants, sets the course, closes recruits. He coaches his coaches (sound familiar?), and glad-hands the boosters and donors…How many car crashes have we seen with "long-time coordinator / assistant" hires, good coaches who patiently waited for their chance, and were exposed? It's not like Fisch was moving every 2 years because he got fired, he was seeing different philosophies, in an effort to create his own philosophy.
I got pushed on as an assistant, and I pushed my assistants on, for their betterment, not necessarily mine.
I don't think anyone is knocking Noll, 4-0 is badass, but knocking Belichick for Brady can't happen without knocking Noll for having Bradshaw, Harris, Swann, Stallworth, Lambert, Webster, Blount, Greene and Ham. 5 Dudes on the NFL all-time 100 team.
Gibbs had the following hall of famers on his teams: John Riggins (2 SBs, 1-1), Art Monk (4 SBs, 3-1), Russ Grimm (4 SBs, 3-1), and Darrell Green (2 SBs, 2-0). No one is putting any of those HOFer on any first team all time team. Green is the only player Gibbs coached on the NFL all-time 100 team.
Gibbs winning % of .621, Noll of .566. Gibbs 17-7 in playoffs, Noll 16-8. Noll made the playoffs and got to 1 AFC CG with rando QBs. Gibbs never had anything but rando QBs and he made them superstars at their peak. And advanced metrics say the 91 Redskins come in as the best team of the SB era.
Gibbs is the only coach at this level who is not tied to an all-time QB or a bunch of other HOFers. (Parcells is the closest in that regard, but he did have L.T)
The NFL all-time 100 coaches during the SB era are: Belichick, Paul Brown (Bengals version but really made the list due to coaching the Browns before the SB), Landry, Gibbs, Lombardi, Noll, Shula and Walsh. Lombardi, Noll and Gibbs are the only ones without an all-time 100 QB, and obviously Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw are HOFers. None for Gibbs.
Disparage Gibbs if you want but the case that he's the actual GOAT coach can be made.

Brady won one without Bill.
Defense-adjusted value over average

Edit- no idea wtf is going on with copy pasta from that website.
Yeah and Bill was the DC on two championship teams while Brady was still spankin it in mom’s basement. So what?
Fisch must be a Dutch name.
It’s German for fish, which means…
A. Cool Pikes Place segment opportunity
B. Some real operation valkyrie shit when we play Oregon
Their defense was stellar too. I’m too lazy to look but IIRC, they had the no. 1 offense and no. 2 defense in the league that year.

If Oregon's coach did this doogs would be off the deep end about it.
But that's not what Oregon's coach does.
He shows off his rings he got buying the staff kegs.
What kind of horseshit comment is that?
Perhaps because when Fisch has a job for 3 straight years it will be the first tim.
AGAIN, you guys would be raining a shit parade down on other programs for this stuff.
Now we're crediting coaches for their work as coordinators? I'm sure Bill Parcells agrees with you there...

You seem depressed. You guys were so happy
I agree on that concern, but it has nothing to do with bootlicking for god's sake. Your response doesn't make sense.
Ducks are rattled
Still
watching Arizona make turnover shish kabobs against Oklahoma in the Alamo bowl was one of the most ridiculous/hilarious moments of the year.
It was absurd, a kid almost skewered himself, but they loved it.
Just win baby.

I'd take the 84,89,or 94 Niners over the 91 Redskins but that's my fan take
I was a big SF fan since Brodie.
Rooting for the Chefs Sunday
Raining down a shit parade for what exactly? I'm also not sure what the connection between leap frogging Jedd and bottlicking Jedd is.
But your panties are twisted, so Jedd must be doing something right. The fear of yet another carpet bagger becoming the duck's daddy is palpable.
