Toby was a key contributor to the continuous watering-down of popular country music from grassroots & hillbilly style to the tractor & beer style. Not just lyrics, but compositionally.
Some of his songs are damn cheesy but he had some bangers. Shoulda Been a Cowboy is one of my favorite 90s country songs and How Do You Like Me Now is also great.
Modern country stars - with a few notable exceptions - all seem like parodies of each other with the same old cliches.
When you look back at the golden era of country in the 60s and 70s, Merle, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willy, Hank Jr, etc, all had very distinctive styles from one another.

you've gotta be kidding me
Wow I didn't know he had cancer. RIP
Last I saw him was last year for maybe an awards show and he looked really rough. This one stings a little.
He was a great American. RIP.
He made good music for a long time.
This death is shocking y’all.
Toby never did anything for me musically, but this is terribly sad none the less.
62 is way too young to go out in 2024.
I thought put a boot in their ass was a great song for the moment but it got lost in the growing divide over how to respond to 9 11
Justice will be served and the battle will rage
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass, BUT WON'T STAY TO NATION BUILD (TITTT).
Shock’n y'all is one of his albums.

Same.

Still, he seemed like a good guy. RIP.
Has my respect. Didn’t lean on outside songwriters. Mostly wrote all of his material which is a lot to ask in Country/western music

The gal in Whiskey Girl video made the Throbber tingly.

Waylon, Willie, Merle, Kris Kristofferson, Hank Jr were all great songwriters.
Yella all those guys were called outlaws for a reason
Mainstream country generally has always sucked. The Nashville Sound to modern pop schlock
There were and are artists who excelled in those genres but most of it sounds the same
