Wilner was on KJR yesterday. He thinks UW is a dark horse playoff candidate if the spring portal shakes out well. Claims that UW is holding back on the portal until after spring ball and has serious NIL money for that transfer window. He thinks 9 - 3 is possible and if that gets UW into the top-4 of the B1G they can reach the playoff.
I almost drove off the road while listening to him doog. Even Softy couldn't believe what he was hearing
No, but he also has never passes on an opportunity to downplay UW. He either has a boner for Fisch or he knows that he needs the UW clicks to support his career now that the PAC is done and the Bay schools are screwed.
That sounds doogy but it really shouldn't come as a surprise if UW is aggressive and has a plan for the roster. It's all about tampering and $$. The speed that they moved with to grab Fisch, the money they threw at him, and the money they were offering Deboer are all signs that this isn't the 2003-2022 UW anymore when it comes to football.
I'm not saying it's all going to be great so don't twist. I'm just saying UW might be serious about football and that assuming the worst isn't always going to be correct anymore.
I think there will be 1 or 2 more losable games on the schedule annually for teams at the top of their conferences. We just took the 3 programs at the top of the PAC and the 2 programs at the top of the B12 and stuck them in the B1G and SEC. Neither conference added dreck so the percentage of good teams in each one went up. That just forces more tuff games between contenders.
the question will be whether 9-3 in the SEC or B1G can be ranked ahead of 10-2 in the ACC/B12. Loss sorting was always the default before with ties broken by other criteria but now the differences will be significant.
Most of them already do though. Sure there are a few decent OOC games but 10-2 in either conference is making the playoff unless they have complete cupcakes OOC and also a super easy conference schedule due to scheduling rotations, and even then I would be surprised.

Does Wilner ever get anything right?

The expanded playoff is nice and all, but it's still very difficult to get in, particularly with the guaranteed P5 spot.
1st 3 out last few years:
'23: 10-2 Oklahoma, 9-3 LSU, 9-3 Arizona
'22: 10-2 Washington, 9-3 FSU, 9-3 Beav
'21: 10-2 BYU, 10-3 Oregon, 10-3 Iowa (P5 Cinnci was in playoff so true top 12 this year)
Doubt a 3-loss team is making the playoff unless they are a conference champion.
There aren't going to be seven 0-1 loss teams with the new conference consolidations....
Not to mention 4/12 teams were pac 12, can't have that level of bias when we're in the big
It's also an easier road there especially without Arizona road fuckery

@PostGameOrangeSlices and I have been saying 8-4 Is the floor since day one
Are conferences playing more conference games?
+1
Good point, running the table in the SEC for example only got easier by adding oklahoma/Texas.

You're assuming teams won't start scheduling cupcakes ooc if all they have to do is go 7-2 in conference (6-2 in SEC) to make playoffs.
