I'm reading The Johnstown Flood by my boy David McCullough right now. Love his work. We also share a last name. Haven't read Truman yet. Will.pawz said:@YellowSnow
Speaking of Truman, have you read Truman by David McCullough? Seminal door-stop read.
That is all. -

Don't sleep on the Panama Canal and Brooklyn Bridge books he authored. Both are essential.CallMeBigErn said:

It was Lambo’s purple helmet magnet schedule and the Nebraska plunger rape that got me, but to each their own.

I finished reading Truman and left with the impression he was one of the most underrated POTUS' of all-tim. I don't think he cracks the Top 5, but Top 10 for shizzle.YellowSnow said:

Truman:
1) wife kept her bitch-ass mother-in-law around way too long
2) the Missouri political machine put him in office
3) Dem party picked him as VP for FDR because they knew FDR would croak and didn’t like the liberal VP
4) nuked Japan and ended WWII
5) started the Cold War
6) defended Korea from Korea (and the Chinese commies)
7) shit canned MacArthur who was advocating turning all of China into glass (probably his best move)
Not sure how any of that relates to Petersen -

Adding Truman to my list. Just finished Coldest Winter and have a newfound appreciation for Truman as president and my hatred of MacArthur has only increased. -
Antony Beevor (spelling?) was the author of Stalingrad and Berlin. Great books but exhaustive.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

MacArthur was massively overrated. Nimitz was/is the man -
MacArthur was in it for the clicks

Dugout Doug sucked ass.
If you’re interested in Truman, the real story is how he started to ball rolling that ended up with helicopters evacuating the US Embassy in Saigon in 1975 -

Quite honestly Woodrow Wilson kicked it off at Versailles…AZDuck said:Dugout Doug sucked ass.

Unfortunately, too many of his critical wins were due to his own vainglorious fuck ups.YellowSnow said:

Not sure if anyone has seen 8-Bit Christmas (awesome movie), but Jim is rocking the Powerglove, which is mocked to hell in said movie.
I think lookin like a dork and a poor adaptation from Lawnmower man may have started it. -
I never really got the Petersen hate.
Mild disappointment and anger for blowing two leads against Oregon, sure
very good coach that got to three straight New Year's bowls, and a semi-final
We aren't Bammer, folks
