Miami paid NINE MILLION DOLLARS for MARIO FUCKING CRYSTABALLZ TWO YEARS AGO!

    ahem

I was thinking that with the Salary we were paying Fisch that the buyout would easily be 20+ million for the first 3 years at least... Did they not learn what a disaster it is to have a mildly competent coach leave your program now? I dont understand how UW gets on the hook for 85% too.

We are giving this fucking fish (54 million) ~46 million guaranteed in the next 7 years and you cant get him to a buyout of at least 30% for the original contract if he leaves when you know he is a flight risk???

UW contract: How can we make it so UW is on the hook for 1 billion dollars if he sucks but on the 1% chance he is good we want it to be easy for him to leave or skull fuck UW with a contract renegotiation that any school can buy out in a couple years.

I don't get it. Sexton must have the pedo island list.

Buyout and contract can always be redone

In year 3 the buyout is only 6 million, a buyout that basically anyone can achieve, that means when you go to Fish/Sexton and tell him you want to renegotiate it you aren't actually renegotiating the contract, you are again, in a open bidding war against anyone that wants him. UW maintains zero leverage.

UW gave Fish a 7 year 59 million dollar 85% guaranteed contract that they will have to bid against everyone in the country for in 2.5 years if he is any good... Its a contract where UW is fucked if he is good and fucked if he sucks, all after just two seasons.

Extending a coach after 1 good season is equally as retarded. What happens if Norvell goes to Idaho St in 2 years? FSU won't blink at $10,000,000.

    12MM is shockingly low.

    O/U is 2.5 for Fisch.

You guys realize there are two parties in a contract negotiation?

What leverage did UW have here? None, Fisch was set for next year with a pre-season top 10 team and a contract extension on the table. UW was without a coach after the music had already stopped.

They still got the coach they wanted. They didn’t overpay.

Whether the buyout is $6m or $20m it’s not going to dissuade the programs that might come after Fisch if he is successful here.

As much as you like the idea in your head of forcing a coach to stay via HAVING A CONTRACT it’s just not gonna happen.

While correct it makes Fisch an immediate target for any major program or NFL team if he performs, and reduces the return for UW if he were to leave.

UW athletic dept isn’t rolling on cash. They need a hedge if Fisch leaves and this highlights the lack of leverage on the part of the AD, as you said.

If Fisch sucks year 1 but wins 9 games year 2, that’s probably enough for Florida to pull the trigger, and then you’re looking for another coach. Fisch signed that deal with one foot out the door already, because he could. UW was over the barrel.

It’s a good deal for UW if they can get 20 guys from the AZ team to come with him but I’m not sure if that’s gonna happen or not.

Imagine posting this when nobody wants your Keg Boy 1/4 coach.

You couldn't get into UW if you put a gun to the registrar's head.

Maybe UW should have known that

The leverage is that UW was offering him 54 million dollars (45 million guaranteed) and doubled his pay while Arizona was offering him only 25 million and guaranteeing significantly less.

Meh, he was pretty set to bet on himself by staying for one more year at Arizona and then parlaying that into an even bigger job.

Obviously he liked the UW opportunity and probably felt more comfortable with Dannen and uw administration but make no mistake UW was in no position to be squabbling over buyout conditions.

I hope Dannen told Grubb to get some HC experience and check back in 23 months

ffs, Bama just paid a $12,000,000 buyout. ADs need to start tying the buyout to the total value of the contract. We'll pay you $1,000,000 more per year but your buyout is 50% of the contract. You can even be HONEST about it. Hey we want to make it as toxic as possible for another progrum to hire you away because we love you. We're willing to pay a premium but you need to agree to this buyout.

They really need to make buy-outs variable based on record/performance, and who is paying it.
    - If leaving for Power 4 conf, buyout is 2x, if record is over .750, buyout is 3x
    - If performance is below .500, Buyout = Winning % x Stated Buyout.

Then I'm good with those numbers above.
Who is “they”? You get what you can negotiate, no one is stopping anyone from doing that.

Florida is kind of a trainwreck and a tough place to win with Georgia and increasingly Missouri waiting to prison rape you every season. Miami will be married to Cristobal for a while longer. I think the most likely place to take him from us in the near future is the Eagles given he was their GMs roommate and Nick Sirianni is an annoying douchebag who is now losing. But that's all predicated on him winning here so if he leaves for the NFL so be it, at least he wouldn't be able to take players and likely even all the coaches with him.

Agreed. There’s a low probability he sees year 3 in the current form… either way

$12M is still one of the highest buyouts in CFB, like top-5.
