Michigan -4 over UW.

The defense was devastating. Absolutely the strength of the team. But it is ignorant to state the offense plodded along. They had a damned good offense that featured a fantastic O-line. They could score quickly and abundantly, or grind it out. They looked like an NFL team playing college ball.chuck said:
The offense was good, but their greatest strength was that they could always count on getting the ball back and had time to get something working. They didn't start fast like this current UW team usually does. They didn't have to.Southerndawg said:
Not much plodding along in 1991. Mostly severe smashing. They left no doubt.RTD said:
Of course, different era, 91 was about defensive dominance and plodding to victory, if your team was lucky enough to have balance beyond a running game that was extra. 30 years later it’s about protecting the talent and the Dawgs have a super charged offense, that’s puts more points up than their D gives up. That’s how this squad wins.Southerndawg said:
Completely different teams. Those differences instill different levels of confidence.RTD said:
The Dawgs have spent the better part of the last theee decades in the desert. Im guessing most of you were too young to remember 91. If you can’t get up for this and ride the wave till the end you’re missing the moment.PineapplePirate said:I wish I had the confidence that you all do.
The 1991 DaWgs were Bad Motherfuckers. They featured one of the best college defenses ever and an outstanding balanced offense, the best college team of the decade in my opinion, and among the best of all time. They smashed opponents. I, and many many others, never doubted them.
The 2023 DaWgs feature a multi-generational QB, an outstanding group of wide receivers and an outstanding offensive line. DJ is an excellent running back, Iet's hope he's available for the NCG. The defense can play, in fact they are a bit underrated IMO, but they are not smashing anyone. I have doubted these DaWgs and I'm certain I'm not alone in here. They have been very close to Cougin' it in more than a few games, including the Apple Cup and nearly last night. They do find a way to win. Winners win and all that .... until they don't. IMO, their most impressive win this season was the CCG. They dominated a very good Oregon team, arguably the best team they have played so far this season, but again, the final score was closer than it should have been. It is that tendency to make wins harder than should be that has many doubting them and bettors betting against them.

I like your optimism and I am by nature pessimistic. When I watched Michigan this year was definitely not impressed with them. My kid who saw them in person vs PSU and watches a lot of CFB thought they were way overrated and that the actual champ game was UW-Texas.PostGameOrangeSlices said:whlinder said:
I’m not confident, definitely less confident than Texas. Harbaugh is better than Sark and Michigan also thinks they are a team of destiny with their self inflicted scandals. They are confident and tuff.PineapplePirate said:I wish I had the confidence that you all do.
The good news is Harbaugh has never won the last game. He had what, 4 downs from the 10 yard line to win a Super Bowl and didn’t.
Deboner has won the last game. 3 times.
I am supremely confident.
Michigan has not played a "good" offense all year. Bama and Ohio State are rated in the 40s.
UW had to play Oregon x2, Texas, Arizona, USC...hell even WSU has a solid offense.
Still I am petrified of them just running the ball over and over like they did vs PSU (think it was around 30 straight runs to end the game though that did include 1 downfield pass attempt which drew PI) since we struggle with that. -
The defense isn't amazing but it finds ways to get a TFL in those situations and get off the fieldwhlinder said:

Tuli and the fat guys need to play a helluva lot better against Michigan than they did against Texas. If Michigan gets the running game going, it may never stop. I could see a worst-case scenario where McCarthy throws like 10 passes.

Or we just need the 1-2 turnovers/3 & outs like against TX/Oregon while the Offense gets off to a good start so the other team has to abandon the run and play catch up all game.TheHB said:Tuli and the fat guys need to play a helluva lot better against Michigan than they did against Texas. Using COVID year Michigan as an example of what to expect is like using Jimmy Lake Washington to be fair. Im still taking UW by 2 TD'sRaceBannon said: -
Call me crazy, but if Penix isn't sacked 4+ times, and we? score 30+ points, UW is going to win. UW's receivers cannot be covered. The thing that worries me most is no DJ in pass pro out of the backfield. Michigan doesn't have explosive playmakers to keep up in a track meet.

You touched on what worries me the most for UW. The gap between DJ and Tybo as a ball carrier/receiving threat is evident, but as a pass blocker it’s night and day. DJ is one of the best pass blocking backs I can remember. Put Westover in at RB if DJ can't play
