Not taking the ball at the 35, and having stanford re-kick. Brilliant.

Well, Jonathan Peterman has no trust/confidence in Miley Cyrus and his O Line.

Scrimmages don't mean anything season started today...rekick and fake punt worst calls ever
-
Rekick I didn't like, at all, but I get it. O sucks. Fake punt was ridiculous.
-
Miles and staff totally lost their minds... smith drinking Appletinis in the zone at half....your punting and defense been solid and you try to run for it? Bizarre
-
Miles was in total shambles

I didn't hate the re kick. If Ross takes it the house we're all calling it the greatest decision of all time. I think you take the field position regardless but it's defensible.
-
When you've already fucked the game up twice by giving away field position, why not go for the hat trick.allpurpleallgold said:I didn't hate the re kick. The odds of a second return for TD...almost nill

This. Nothing else was working. Put the ball in the hands of the best player on the field.allpurpleallgold said:I didn't hate the re kick. If Ross takes it the house we're all calling it the greatest decision of all time. I think you take the field position regardless but it's defensible.
Oh and Jonathan Smith can DIAF slowly while choking on a bag of dicks. -
So roughly equivalent to the odds of a sustained 65 yard drive.jecornel said:The odds of a second return for TD...almost nill
Let's put it this way, how many times had we returned kicks for TD's in that game, and how many times had our offense went down the field and scored TD's? The answer to each is one, but the percentage of kick returns TD's was higher.
It was a desperation call, the kind of call you make when you have no faith whatsoever in your offense. -
The odds of a second return are the same as the odds for the first return. HTH.jecornel said:The odds of a second return for TD...almost nill

Sark wouldnt have screwed those 2 calls up, anyone still think Petersen is world's best coach?!

You're cute -
Gimme a break. Peterson had no trust in his QB and our WRs blow. I would've taken it at the 35 and I would've punted, but we clearly had no chance to sustain a drive. Sark would bubble screen to death. Finally, for those who believe Sark left the cupboards full, DIAFF. Game was brutal.beelzebub said:Sark wouldnt have screwed those 2 calls up, anyone still think Petersen is world's best coach?!

There really shouldn't be any debate about this. They have to kick it to your best player and biggest threat. Meanwhile, your offense has only scored 1 TD all game. And you gain an extra 5 yards. The odds are very low that you don't return it to close to the 30. Just happened to have a shit return. Big fucking deal. That loss of 19 yards had very little impact on the game. Still had a chance to tie the game with the ball on Stanfords 30, 1st down with a min left.
I didn't agree with the 4th down call but these are the risks you take to beat a better team because the percentages (and risk/reward of the situation) warrant taking these risks. Now if the game were tied, then you'd take the field position. Down 7 with offense not doing anything, you give Ross another crack.

Why the fuck didn't I think of that?
Or why did idiots not realize it was true? -
There is one giant flaw with your point. You want to make them kick it to your best player...but you make no effort to get him the ball yourself all game? If that's the logic, if Ross is worth the risk, then why not get him the ball more?HeretoBeatmyChest said:There really shouldn't be any debate about this. It's a lot easier to score from the 11 than the 30.HeretoBeatmyChest said:There really shouldn't be any debate about this. They have to kick it to your best player and biggest threat. Semi related, Williams wanted to beat Miley like a 12 by the end of the game. Cyrus could lose the team if he can't get the ball out to the playmakersallpurpleallgold said:

Not the same drive bungsniffer.
Your point (@apag) is a separate issue from the rekick question. I'm sure they tried to get him the ball but Miles being a limp wrist and Stanford's D made it very difficult. -
I don't think it is a seperate issue. The logic of he's our best player doesn't make sense when you make no effort to get him the ball on offense.
I agree that Stanfords D and Miley's play made it difficult. But you have to find a way. Get him on a reverse. Run a sweep for him. 3 offensive touches isn't enough. There are ways to get him the ball if you try. They didn't try. -
I was all for taking a rekick. There wasn't a single reason on earth to believe the uw offense was going to go 65 yards. Give your only threat a chance to work.
Fake punt though...not so much. -
that's exactly how I feel. I had zero faith the o-line could hold and that Miles could make any good reads and positive decisions and it's simply a calculated gamble that Ross is special enough that you kinda go for it.chuck said:I was all for taking a rekick. Then again, Syracuse fake punt was sweet. -
Fake punts are always sweet when they work, and stupid when they don't.Meek said:

Because he was covered, the o line sucks, and Miles can't through under pressure or even into a little bit of coverage. The had to bring in Lindquist to try to get it to Ross deep. Miles can't throw it that far.allpurpleallgold said:
