It's the individual who made America great

The individual comes from the Protestant reformation.
That was the rebirth of it

The printing press made it happen

For centuries the church kept the Bible under lock and key

The reform movement was co opted like all movements are

I'd argue the thermos bottle had a greater impact.

It keeps hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold. How does it know?

SMU is best known for the death penalty, and not being remotely power conference caliber ever since.

And speaking of the death penalty, if we seriously end up being stuck in a conference with San Diego State and SMU (being unable to get into Rutger's conference), I hope we self impose a death penalty and just get rid of the football team. It's best that we just kill off the football program at that point so we can have positive memories of the football team, rather than memories of playing conference games at SMU and San Diego State.

If I'm hearing @Sandra6 right, zir has a few concerns about Washington and the P12.

The key takeaway from this thread is that USC and UCLA are treasonous cunts.

Mind your respect Husky. Second favorite program status in jeopardy with all the shit talk around here lately.

USC and UCLA are California leaders who got the fuck out when the getting was good

    @PurpleJ

Lots of outward migration leaving the Golden State these days.

Maybe the PAC12 should make a tremendous offer to the big12 leftovers after TX and OK leave. Pick up 6 teams - Baylor, TXtech, TCU, OK St, Kat and Kansas (for BB) - and form 2 8 team divisions - sending Utah and Colorado to the new division.

But unfortunately, the PAC 10 would rather raid the MWC and Conference America or whatever name they are using now.
Rather than SMU they should shoot for Houston

I like your train of thought but why would Houston abandon the Big 12 for the Pac 12/16?

All this talk of trying to add moar teams to the Pac is re-god-damned-diculous and does nothing to solve the problem.

Yeah - Then we could focus on our powerhouse Basketball team.

Why does college football insist on making this so fucking hard? 32 best programs into four 8 team divisions.

Their President and AD decided that they should kill a hundred years of tradition so that all of their non revenue sports still thrive on money they don't bring in on their own.

They know well that no one is going to pack their stadium for anyone but Ohio State.

    Fuck them.

from what ive been told, uw/oregon wouldnt get into the big 10 (or what fucking ever number we're at) until 29/30 when their new media deal expires. the reason is cbs wont give the big 10 any additional money for adding teams and im not sold other big 10 teams would agree to drop their cut to give to uw/oregon. but i guess, uw/oregon could 'jump' and not get paid, rutgers went that route when they left the big east.

so, for the next six years, we? fucked.

Christianity is a subversive religion that thrives under oppression

State religion is the worst thing that ever happened to it

I'd like to see this play out a little more in the Tug.
I could argue his point both ways. America became great in large part because of its protestant Christian foundation. Its water-down tolerance has arguably led to its downfall too, but that's another story.
The country's protestant Christian tradition wasn't a state religion though. Quite the opposite. And the side benefits of it are critical as to why the US (or Great Britain or Germany or the Dutch) became so wealthy and successful. No one here articulated the argument better than noted Tug Con @Dennis_DeYoung .

Bretton Woods combined with the psychological effects of a protestant Christian tradition is what led to all the wealth.

    and slaughtered all the natives.
