Coach Prime to the Colorado Buffaloes?!

Prime time! Prime time! Prime time! ....
https://247sports.com/Article/College-football-coaching-news-Deion-Sanders-Colorado-South-Florida-report-198224540/
As we enter the pivotal stretch of the coaching carousel, the future of Deion Sanders promises to become more clear.
The wildly successful Jackson State coach — at 11-0, the Tigers sport the first perfect regular season in school history — has made no bones about his desire to coach at college football’s FBS level. While a quiet carousel will limit his options, sources close to Sanders say he’s been in discussions with power-brokers at both Colorado and South Florida about their coaching vacancies. A cycle ago, Sanders interviewed at TCU and Colorado State.
Sanders has not talked to anybody representing Auburn as that program’s search goes in a different direction.
Colorado and South Florida, who are each chasing former glory, offer respective perks for the 55-year-old Sanders.
The Buffaloes might not fit Sanders’ recruiting footprint, but as a Pac-12 school they can offer the best chance for Sanders to pay his assistants well and build out the staff infrastructure he believes he needs (two items he doesn’t come close to satisfying at Jackson State). With the resources Colorado could offer, Sanders has mapped out a plan to recruit nationally to Boulder.
A member of the American Athletic Conference, South Florida is not as flush with cash but is right in Sanders’ recruiting footprint. At 1-10 overall and with conference foes UCF, Cincinnati and Houston headed to the Big 12 by the 2023 football season, Sanders would have an opportunity at South Florida to execute an immediate turnaround similar to what he’s done at Jackson State (26-5 overall, 4-8 the year before Sanders arrived).
The one-win Buffaloes fired Karl Dorrell in early October after an 0-5 start. The one-win Bulls fired Jeff Scott in early November.
Sanders carries weight in households across the country for his success and fame as a two-time All-American at Florida State, 14-year NFL veteran and nine-year MLB player. Sanders won two Super Bowls and appeared in the 1992 World Series, making him the first and only athlete to play in both. Sanders is a key endorser of Under Armour and used to coach in the Under Armour All-America Game.
His ‘Coach Prime’ fame allowed him to turn the college football world on its head last December when he flipped No. 1 overall recruit Travis Hunter from Florida State to Jackson State on the biggest Signing Day surprise ever. Sanders also landed top-100 recruit Kevin Coleman and a host of talented transfers from the FBS level. Hunter has shaken off a season-long injury to flourish in recent weeks, with a pick-six and an offensive touchdown in Jackson State’s win Saturday. Also starring for Jackson State is quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion's son. Shedeur has thrown for over 3,000 yards with 32 touchdowns.
Sanders has helped revitalize HBCU football — Jackson State even hosted ESPN's College GameDay this season — and interested FBS schools are enamored with his ability as a coach, recruiter and unmatched program pitch man. Jackson State will play in the SWAC Championship Game on Dec. 3. If the Tigers win, they would play in the Celebration Bowl (the winner of the SWAC vs. the MEAC) for the second consecutive season.

Colorado has “resources?”

Barkley thinks Prime is going to A&M.
Those fuckers are rich enough and crazy enough to make that happen
Prime ain’t going to Boulder. He’s a bidness man. His brand is worth way more in the SEC.

Only a brave soul would take CU's job

Only if they guaranteed a move to a different conference I would still only give it a less than 5% chance

I don't know. MSU will probably have an opening after he's at Colorado for a year or two. That gives him time to show a quick improvement to almost .500, then really hit the coaching carousel hard in 2024 after a 7 win season. This could be a great business move.whatshouldicareabout said:Only a brave soul would take CU's job

Kiffin to Auburn, Prime to Ole Miss
would be an incredible turn of events. He's already in Mississippi. -

Whichever team lands Prime, they become my #1B for college football. Need a good backup plan after DeBoer leaves UW for Nebraska and Jenn hires Jonathan Smith.

If Prim Tim (ftg) doesn't land one of those big jerbs, sportsmedia gonna loose its shit.

I mean the absolute freak out over an INTERIM hire of a loser coach for a loser franchise like the Colts was amazing to watch. Saturday was picked to play out the string because the owner knows him and wants to drink with him while they look for the REAL coach.GrundleStiltzkin said:If Prim Tim (ftg) doesn't land one of those big jerbs, sportsmedia gonna loose its shit.
Totally obscured any real issues, which there are many, in how the NFL hires and how the Rooney Rule is now seen as a joke.
Prime has done great in two years at HBSCU. He recruited a 5 star. He does commercials with Nick. I'd hire him. Like we say - most coaches suck anyway. Prime would have value even if he did turn out to suck and just maybe he won't -
I hated him as a Niner in 94-95, loved him as a Cowboy 95-96.GrundleStiltzkin said:If Prim Tim (ftg) doesn't land one of those big jerbs, sportsmedia gonna loose its shit.

Loved him when he helped Bobby Bowden put Free Shoes on the map. And his World Series NFL game on the same day. -

So he interviewed for Colorado State last year? Thats a weird job to look into. Also, WTF was Colorado State thinking in going with FS Norvell from Nevada when you could have theoretically had Prime? Does he like the state of Colorado? I mean he's now kicked the tires on both state schools. Maybe he's a winter sports kind of guy? Likes legal weed? Just seems weird.

I thought his mission was to make HBU’s relevant in college football. No?

Old folks like me remember REAL HBCU football that you couldn't watch on TV but filled the NFL when major colleges either didn't recruit Blacks or had quotas. Lasted into the early 80's Jerry Rice
The idea that a kid should turn down a Stanford education to go to NE SW LA State is kind of dumb -
Coach Prime (TWILTCH) says a lot of stuff. Coach Prime is in the business of Coach Prime and Coach Prime’s family. Coach Prime coaching at CU or S. Florida would allow his son to be a starting QB at the FBS level furthering his sons opportunity for a future in the NFL. Coach Prime filled seats at the HBCU level. He did his part. Now is the time for Coach Prime to take the next evolutionary step in Coach Prime’s post playing career.MikeDamone said:I thought his mission was to make HBU’s relevant in college football. No?

I was always surprised he never went beyond Grambling State as a coach. -
Holy shit, is this really happening? Doesn't really surprise me though. Prime is smart, he knows it makes sense to move from Jackson St to the next level but not all the way to the SEC. It's a process.
He's got what it takes ... but it would be rough if he took over a top league team and ... failed. Or the requirements to run such programs is way outta his current league.
Pac 12 Colorado, in that sense would be perfect. Not too high, not too low. 5 million plus a year. If he can pull 5* to Jackson St he can pull good talent to Colorado. If he succeeds, he'll stick around for a coaching cycle and then consider a step up .

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders has been preparing to make an exit in order to take the head coaching job at Colorado, sources told ESPN on Friday.
With Jackson State on the cusp of the SWAC title game Saturday, Sanders and his associates have spent the week making inquiries to both potential members of his on-field staff and support staff at Colorado, pitching them to join him in Boulder, sources said.
A source told ESPN on Friday night that Sanders' outreach included a call to a prominent player in the NCAA transfer portal, encouraging him to not make a decision because Sanders was heading to Colorado and wanted to recruit him there.
A different source close to a player committed to play at Colorado said that earlier this week a current Jackson State staff member called to check in on the player's Colorado commitment. He also asked him for some film of the player to evaluate him.
"They weren't exactly hiding anything," said the source. "It seemed like it was a done deal."
Internally at Colorado, according to sources, the support staff has been seen preparing material for Sanders' hire. There's a widespread expectation in the building that Sanders will arrive there this weekend, although the staff has not been told formally.
"They're not doing a great job of hiding this," said a staff source. "If he backs out of this deal, it would be a huge problem for Colorado."
Sanders has said publicly that he's been offered the Colorado job. All signs point to him accepting it in the next 48 hours, as all the other candidates Colorado has engaged have been stalled after interviewing weeks ago.
Sanders has gone 26-5 his past three seasons at Jackson State and 22-2 the past two years. Jackson State (11-0) plays Southern (7-4), a team it beat 35-0 earlier in the year, for the SWAC title Saturday. Sanders is expected to inform his team that he's leaving soon after the game.
Sanders is in just his third season as a college football coach.
Colorado fired Karl Dorrell in October after an 0-5 start and an 8-15 record overall in three years as coach. Mike Sanford filled in as interim and went 1-6 to close the year.
Sanders is an iconic American athlete and a member of both the Pro Football and College Football Hall of Fame. He played in the NFL for 14 seasons, won two Super Bowls and also played for five different Major League Baseball teams from 1989 through 2001. -
The infusion of talent to Boulder would be massive. They would be P12 competitive next year. Jackson State has his son at QB and a couple 4* kids and that 5* DB. I’m sure they would portal immediately. He’s got tons of Texas HS connections. Would be a hire with lots of sizzle. Moving from Dorrel to Sanders is akin to moving from prohibition to late 70’s Studio 54 over night. A complete shock to the system and that program needs it.

Colorado was a nice stepping stone for the now legendary Mel Tucker
Smart move
And I think Deion can coach. The Big 12 gets a good one -

Lots of people want to shit on this. I won’t.
This is what Arizona St thought they were doing with Herm, but with a billion times more swag and ability to pull in talent. The dude connects. -
Anyone who thought Herm was this is a moron. Herm hadn’t coached college or recruited. No swag, all wet rag.whlinder said:Lots of people want to shit on this. I won’t.

This is a great hire until it isn’t. Sizzle, recruiting and contention for the coveted off season natty. For a program that’s cratered this works. If the in the field product is deemed to be lacking the cupboard will be stocked for the next guy. If Sanders kills it and moves to the SEC the cupboard will be stocked for the next guy. Win/win.
