Run blocking?
LikeWeSay...No.gif -
That's exactly what I saw, he gets low and dives in it's a TD no question.
The line isn't fantastic in this situation, but Papa fucked up. -
He is really slow to the hole and doesn't hit it with any purpose.
Someone pointed out that the blocking failures were primarily on the straight ahead runs down there. The OL did, and does, much better on the perimeter.
I saw creases that looked like automatic touchdowns open up on at least three run plays and the RBs blew them. Penix also could have punched in that run option play if Fataunu had sealed his man a little better or if Penix had the quicks to dodge him. The dude blew up the play by squeezing just far enough inside his block to reach an arm in and slow Penix before he could get outside the tackle. -
Yeah thats what he's saying.KidsInCagesDawg said:So you’re saying the offensive line is ELITE

wait it's harder to run when there's more people at the LOS? weirdchuck said:He is really slow to the hole and doesn't hit it with any purpose.

Pass pro? definitely.KidsInCagesDawg said:So you’re saying the offensive line is ELITE
run blocking? they're average to above average.
Our running backs aren't great. Cam Davis could be good if he didn't trip over his dick all the time. -
Need Big Dick Newton Energy

By far the best goal line back on the team. Agreed.MikeDamone said:Need Big Dick Newton Energy

No sacks

It's genrally risky to run outside if the ol is allowing the ends any penetration. It's been a long time since I've seen a UW OL so efficient at sealing and preventing disruptive plays off the edge I'd speculate that the staff was still learning what it has with this OL, but will have a better plan inside the five in the future. They definitely need to stick with the spread.backthepack said: -
11.5% pressure rate against two legit pass rushers in bogle/windmon on 43 dropbacks. Very good.RaceBannon said:No sacks

They're big and athletic. Run from spread formations and get people out of the box. They'll be able to seal edges/linebackers. Huff has done a good job recruiting.chuck said: -
Is this the play where he dropped it at the 1?

1st down OL gets zero push, 2nd Talapapa fucks it up, 3rd down zero push from OL again, 4th OL blown the fuck up and #55 Fautanu pulls a Ben Ossai.
RBs get some blame but the vast majority should be on the OL... If you are expecting your RB to make some read or cut on <2 yard goal-line runs you are doing something wrong. That being said I would like to see an angry Newton get a few short yardage tries.
-
I believe the call there is supposed to be God's Play, followed up by God's Play, then another God's Play, and finally God's Play.
-
Talapapa let a db come from a side angle, where he should have already had forward momentum before impact, hit him from said angle, and forcefully turn him away and drive him backward. He was all but in at the time of the hit and only needed to glance off and fall forward or simply overpower him for about 6 more inches. Just a pathetic effort.
That many tries up the gut should have worked though. Teams still successfully slam running backs into a goal line formation to this day. No excuses in my opinion. -
God has a new playbook. He’s gone to the spread and likes a run-pass option on at least two attempts.RTD said:I believe the call there is supposed to be God's Play, followed up by God's Play, then another God's Play, and finally God's Play.

The shitty OL goal line blocking wasn't isolated to just that one MSU stand... MSU defenders were regularly pushing UWs OL off the LOS into their own backfield on all the goal line situations... From two other drives...
-
I'm pretty sure the coaches are going to sow this film and Papa and tell him "this is reason you're here" He should have scored, especially when he was on one with the Spartan secondary. Newton scores on that play.
-
It's a zone crack toss with baini pulling, they're just supposed seal off their man. Westover getting raped kills the angle and the play.Houhusky said:The shitty OL goal line blocking wasn't isolated to just that one MSU stand... Papa made a sweet TD catch. That's his talent. He should never get the ball in the backfield.DawgDaze71 said:I'm pretty sure the coaches are going to sow this film and Papa and tell him "this is reason you're here" He should have scored, especially when he was on one with the Spartan secondary. That was one that I thought should've been housed in real time. I see now there wasn't much chance.backthepack said: -
He scores if he doesn't have to widen due to Westover getting bitched. I believe this was after Culp came off. Culp seals that for 6.chuck said: -
If the left guard had made a stronger block that would've been one less guy coming across and taking away the cutback lane. He just patticaked his guy, not driving him back at all or even making him alter his footwork.backthepack said: -
Yeah he's got to seal and get his hips towards the sideline. It wasn't power we weren't trying to blow them off the ball, rather just positionally block them.chuck said: -
I remembered in real time thinking Westy struggled on those goal line series. Wonder if they make an adjustment in goal lines and get a sixth OL in or a Dlineman to add more power.
-
You guys realize that Westover got blown up on that block because he had to try to block two guys because McMillen didnt crack block the correct edge DB (#12) and instead incorrectly jumped into the second level to block the Safety that had already taken himself out of the play?
-
Guys guys guys, can’t we just be happy we held on at home against a top 1/3 B1G team? How cool is that!?
-
I see your point, but was he supposed to take him or #8?Houhusky said:You guys realize that Westover got blown up on that block because he had to try to block two guys because McMillen didnt crack block the correct edge DB (#12) and instead incorrectly jumped into the second level to block the Safety that had already taken himself out of the play?
