Socha must go. Was amazed but how soft and tubby our linemen looked this year

Buffy Miller thinks he's awesome and so did some former players.
I wanted him gone but its possible it was a rotten fish head situation

And the OP sounds like a jilted lover

Typically the s&c coach is taking input from the staff on how to morph their bodies and want to emphasize. Once Pete left this completely fell off. My guess is Pete put the fear of god into the coaches and players to be in shape. Jimmy was, well whatever. Just a hunch. Race Porter is the only player that got yoked and faster.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Wtf happened with this guy? Why did our players go from badass to soft with presumably the same or a similar program

I realized socha sucked after the huskies and Petersen lost to a shit Auburn team… that’s when I realized we’d never be physical enough to beat sec teams with Petersen

Looking at the after photo of Haener explains a lot
Fresno does what it takes. Bring it here -
My best guess is that the COVID restrictions and protocols fucked up Socha's system, and he didn't make the right adjustments to keep everyone in shape
-
Rotten head coach, rotten program.
I'm convinced that the right head coach will get his assistants to perform, period. When they don't it's on him and him alone and he usualky gets one chance to fix it.
So, while I don't blame the assistant coaches for the way their units performed this year, I want them all gone anyways because I'm kind of tired of recycled names, but I know it's not happening. -
If true, FTG. If not true, FTG.NEsnake12 said:My best guess is that the COVID restrictions and protocols fucked up Socha's system, and he didn't make the right adjustments to keep everyone in shape

Semi related but heard from a former player Sark would be in the weight room eating a bag of chips and yelling at guys for not working hard enough and then Petersen came in and work would work out with them and everything changedAtomicDawg said:

It's totally related. It's another illustration of how it's always the head coach.WoolleyDoog said:

Socha didn’t magically forget how to train. No idea what happened with the drop off but him and Malloe are the only 2 coaches I would hope are being considered for retaining.
-
I remember Socha saying that after the Bama game he needed to completely overhaul his system. Not sure that worked out so well as it feels like even Pete teams were softer after that.
-
Really? We lost because Browning choked and that fucking turnover near the goal line with the option.PasadenaHuskyFan said:I realized socha sucked after the huskies and Petersen lost to a shit Auburn team… that’s when I realized we’d never be physical enough to beat sec teams with Petersen
I don’t remember Auburn running all over us and Gaskin had a decent game once we started giving him the ball. -
Actually the roster got way bigger that off season so that was probably what they were referring to. I remember rapp and McIntosh I think put on like 10lbs which was odd at that point in their careers. They were impressed with bama’s stars apparently and their tailback trucking the entire defense down the sidelines.UW_Doog_Bot said:I remember Socha saying that after the Bama game he needed to completely overhaul his system. He’s gone.

They weren't softer. They were just too big and a lot slower and not as quick.UW_Doog_Bot said:I remember Socha saying that after the Bama game he needed to completely overhaul his system. Not sure that worked out so well as it feels like even Pete teams were softer after that.

Do you know if Malloe is also gone? I’m on the fence with him…backthepack said:He’s gone.

"Soft" I remember us melting in second halves thereafter which was never a problem before. Not mutually exclusive ideas. Tomato Tomatobackthepack said:

Buffy Miller still thinks Jimmy Lake was a great coach and we got rid of him too quickly. I'll pass on Buffy's opinionsRaceBannon said:Buffy Miller thinks he's awesome and so did some former players.

Regarding Buffy, I’m sure she loves Lake because he helped Jordan get drafted and she probably talked to Lake often during the recruiting process back when he still recruited.
Getting an opinion from a player is another interesting exercise. Players will say “Coach is the best coach I’ve ever had” and if the player is in college, I would fucking hope a college coach is better than your high school and peewee coaches. -

We love Buffy, but that is bad take. Jimmy was moron for pissing away a great opportunity to build generational wealth for this familyBeerThirty said:

This. Miller was one of the earlier recruits when Jimmy was just a DB coach, so I am sure he built a great relationship with them. Lake was a lights out DB coach/recruiter and as you eluded too, got Jordan drafted and he was a pretty low level recruit.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

Socha could probably be a decent S&C coach again under DeBoer, but the question is whether DeBoer thinks he's a good fit.
Socha was at BSU when they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl and had some decent years at UW, but 2019 onward has been bad
