Sounds like a good assistant

He's a hell of a coach. He's trying to whip the pussified Mack Brownisms out of his team. It isn't permanent. Stop being a twister. Or something.

I get the idea, but at its core it's a meaningless stunt. Like he's not going to put the fucking logo back on the helmet at some point. That fan base will turn him into hanging fruit if he keeps them off and the players will eventually turn on him. I don't get motivated by a predictable ending.

Gary Barnett did this at CU back in the day. He then declared, "RTD: Return to Dominance," as that year's moto.
It didn't take NB fans an hour to start with "RTD = Return The Decals."
Gimmicks are fucking stoopid because they are for loosers like us.
Close the gates (Hi Pup) and get to fucking work -
He's got a great resume, but I also see Doogles point. At a certain point it becomes corny. At the end of the day though, this motivational move will have nothing to do with whether he succeeds or not. Texas had become one of the most pussified teams in college football under Mack Brown.Gladstone said:He's a hell of a coach. He's trying to whip the pussified Mack Brownisms out of his team. Saban went 6-6 and gutted the Alabama program in his first year. Strong is doing the same thing. He's getting the pussies out and it's so easy to recruit there, he knows that players leaving won't be a problem because they can always be replaced with their recruiting base. The only difference is Saban had everyone's support. Strong does not. I'm intrigued by what is going on in Austin. -
I'd like to see Texas continue to be pussies.

Reminds me of something John Mackovic would do. I'm not saying he's Mackovic so don't go twisting.

Strong is very well spoken.

I actually have high hopes for this hire. I grew up in Texas with a Longhorn parent and an Aggie parent, so I was always somewhere in the middle (and got out of it by going to UW), but over the last 6-7 years I became gradually more disillusioned by the arrogance of the Texas fanbase. The entitlement was palpable and really started building after the '05 natty. The flipside is that more winning will bring more entitlement, but having a black head coach shove it up all the boosters' asses would be pretty fun to watch.oregonblitzkrieg said:I'd like to see Texas continue to be pussies.
What has become more sad is seeing TAMU transform itself after such a short time in the SEC. They seem to think that Manziel had nothing to do with their success and Sumlin will just plug another guy in. Never mind Manziel single handedly willing that mediocre team to probably 6 wins alone. This is playing out in a huge money grab (new stadium, facilities, etc) with no regard for those who have supported the program through the thick and thin. My dad gave up his seats of 35 years as a fuck you, and although I will really miss Kyle Field, I was proud of him.
That's probably as much as y'all want to hear about Texas CFB for now. -
I'm not a fan of either team, but it was sure fun to watch A&M with Manziel.WilburHooksHands said:

Is there a midget clutching a football who runs orangebloods going around telling everyone that Strong can't relate to "edgy" players?

He's a Ty Willingham kind of coach. He'll do for Texas what Ty did here. He doesn't have the resume to pull that shit off
-
I also grew up in Texas, and actually started college at UT, so they are my "second" team after Oregon. Strong's the right guy at the right time for Texas. That program was all about orange slices under Mack:
Dude in the picture is one of the ones that's been kicked off the team, incidentally.

Honestly I think the most fun I've ever had watching a player. Yeah, he took insane chances, but when you have to put up 45 every week or you will lose, it's necessary. Also, he is absolutely fearless when playing from behind and was tough as shit. He almost beat Auburn with one arm if not for a terrible horsecollar no call. Still threw for 450 yards, 4TD's and was a fucking warrior.oregonblitzkrieg said:

Always about the blacks(obligatory)?

In Strong's last two seasons at LV when they were ranked in the top 15, they were 26 and 44 by SRS. His resume seems really weak for a school like Texas. In three years Todd Graham is really going to try to get that job or the Texas A&M job. Sumlin will be exposed without Manziel.

Interesting. The metrics are good shit, but this shows an issue I have with the metrics. Strong went 12-1 last season with a three point loss to Central Florida. Central Florida had a elite QB in Bortles and one of the best RB's in the country. A disappointing loss, but certainly understandable. UCF also beat Baylor pretty handily in a BCS Bowl Game. Louisville did have some games where they struggled and didn't win all that handily over weaker competition, but going 12-1 is always a good season.HeretoBeatmyChest said:In Strong's last two seasons at LV when they were ranked in the top 15, they were 26 and 44 by SRS. I think Strong will do better at Texas than you think. He's been a part of championship teams. So has Sark, but Strong isn't an undisciplined dipshit who was gifted anything like Sark was. Strong should have became a head coach much sooner than he did. Everything he is doing is trying to make Texas tougher.
I'm not sure about Sumlin either. He's always had great offenses and he will get another great QB. Who knows if Kyle Allen will be any good, but he was the #1 QB recruit on Scout for the 2014 class. Sumlin is also recruiting great talent, but he needs to figure it out on defense. If he hires a great DC (and he will have an open check book), he could do very well. I think he's overhyped, but I'm not sure he's bad enough to be fired. He will have some good seasons mixed in with average ones. -
Disagree. Those look like InGameOrangeSlices to me.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

Gotta admit, Manziel was worth tuning in for, all by himself.
-
I think Manziel will be a Pro Bowler in the NFL. Most of the GM's and Exec's are so old fashioned. The group think is pathetic. A few think he's out of control and then it becomes fact because it is repeated so often. The kid is a gamer and a great football player. He loves the celebrity and knows if he blows it at football it all goes away. There are tons of NFL players who probably party just as hard, if not harder than Manziel.
-
Johnny Ball would be a huge improvement to the watchability of NFL. The only system he's ever played in is "Johnny run around & make a play."RoadDawg55 said:I think Manziel will be a Pro Bowler in the NFL. Most of the GM's and Exec's are so old fashioned. The last thing he wants to do is be a bust. There is no partying with Drake and Floyd Mayweather if you bust and he knows that. This play tells you all you need to know about Manziel on a football field. He may party hard, but he's an animal on game day... Fumble on the goal line, Manziel pursues ball carrier the other way, blows up a block, strips the ball carrier, and then tackles the other guy who picks up the ball.

Roadie,
The metrics don't penalize them for losing a close game to CF. Whereas conventional thought gives 100% value to a win, the metrics differentiate appropriately between a close win and close loss or close loss and blowout loss.
Strong may do well but his resume isn't close to good enough to have a top 5 job. I hope he does well because if not he'll cry racism and it will only make other programs think twice about hiring a black coach, thereby exacerbating that problem. I'd worry that he won't get the full support and buy in to do what he's trying to do. He doesn't yet have the credibility of a Saban or Petersen for that matter. -
And a credit to his race...allpurpleallgold said:Strong is very well spoken.
