Victor Davis Hanson had a podcast a few weeks ago about this. He outlined how California went from an agricultural powerhouse to an incompetent state unable to provide for its own citizens. The blame lays at the feet of Silicon Valley running the state.

Yes, but they replaced it with reliable and dependable solar and wind power. It's why we now get non-stop PSAs from the state about not using energy between 4:00pm - 9:00pm.
